Brendan Greene’s PLAYERUNKNOWN Productions has recently revealed a three-step strategy which leads up to the launch of one of the most daring MMOs (Massively Multiplayer Online Games) ever created. Today, they have made public a tech demo called “Preface: Untouched World,” providing players with a glimpse of Melba, their in-house studio’s creation, which spans an entire Earth in size.
Afterward, they plan to release “Prologue: Go Wayback!”, an open-world survival game with solo play features, scheduled for 2025. A six-minute video, shared along with the announcements, features Brendan and his team discussing the studio’s journey leading up to this point, as well as outlining some exciting promises about what lies ahead.
‘Billions of Worlds’
The team led by Brendan Greene at PLAYERUNKNOWN Productions has successfully reshaped and innovated the concept of procedural world generation. Leveraging advanced artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) technology, they have developed a system capable of creating massive expanses of terrain in a matter of microseconds.

The team at PLAYERUNKNOWN’s studio is currently developing advanced weather and landscape technology for upcoming games, with an ambitious goal of creating a massive, planet-sized MMO that could potentially accommodate millions of players in the future. However, achieving this vision will require significant effort and overcoming numerous challenges along the way.
PLAYERUNKNOWN is placing great emphasis on player suggestions and community engagement as they guide the evolution of their studio, the suite of three games, and especially the advancements in terrain technology.
