Fake ICE Agent Arrested for Breaking Into Home and Trying to Steal PlayStation

Police have arrested 35-year-old William Gregory for breaking into a home and falsely claiming to be an ICE agent. He allegedly tried to steal a PlayStation and other electronics, but a 17-year-old resident fought him off, according to police and Pittsburgh’s Action News 4. Gregory is facing charges of impersonating an officer and burglary.

According to court documents, a man named Gregory broke into a home in Beltzhoover, a neighborhood in Pittsburgh, claiming to be with ICE. He allegedly asked the residents for proof of their legal status. While trying to steal a PlayStation, controllers, and a child’s phone, Gregory threatened a young person with a knife. The child then punched Gregory in the face, knocking him unconscious until police arrived.

According to a neighbor, Crystal Calloway, who spoke to Pittsburgh’s Action News 4 (WTAE), the family involved is Hispanic, and the neighborhood is generally diverse. Calloway also voiced concerns about someone falsely claiming to be an ICE agent and attempting to enter the community. This comes as protests continue in Minneapolis over the shooting death of 37-year-old Renee Good, an American citizen, by ICE agent Jonathan Ross on January 7th.

Calloway commended her neighbor’s son for his courage, saying his quick reaction helped him protect his family. William Gregory, who is now in Allegheny County Jail, has been charged with ethnic intimidation and burglary. Authorities also revealed that Gregory was already wanted for a previous burglary and firearm possession when this incident happened.
