Fan Art Gives Pokemon Lord of the Rings-Inspired Makeovers

A Pokemon fan has created stunning artwork reimagining various Pokemon characters in the style of The Lord of the Rings. Pokemon is a hugely popular franchise with a vast collection of movies, TV shows, games, and trading cards.

I first got into Pokémon back in ’96 when it launched in Japan – it was amazing discovering those first 151 creatures! It blew up huge really quickly, and everyone was collecting Pokémon through the games and trading cards. Meanwhile, The Lord of the Rings is a classic – Tolkien wrote The Fellowship of the Ring way back in ’54. Then, in 2001, Peter Jackson’s movies brought the whole world of Middle-earth to life, and they were incredible. It’s wild to think these two universes have never officially teamed up, but one fan actually took the time to imagine what a Pokémon/Lord of the Rings crossover would be like!

One Fan Blends Lord of the Rings With Pokemon

An artist named Lyndorr recently shared some creative fan art on Reddit, reimagining Pokémon as if they came from J.R.R. Tolkien’s world of Middle-earth. Their design for a new evolution of Marill, called Silmarill, especially caught people’s attention, with many calling it “absolutely perfect” and praising Lyndorr’s ingenuity. The name “Silmarill” is a clever reference to Tolkien’s novel, The Silmarillion, which further develops the history and mythology of Middle-earth.

Lyndorr’s artwork includes many interesting creatures, including a reimagined Torterra from Pokemon that feels perfectly suited to the world of The Hobbit. This version of Torterra doesn’t just have a tree on its back—its shell is designed like a cozy home, complete with a round door and a chimney. You could easily imagine a Hobbit relaxing on top of it, leaning against the tree.

Lyndorr has demonstrated their love for Pokemon before, recently creating artwork that reimagined the series with a Norse mythology theme. This artwork was very popular with other fans, who quickly praised their creativity. Considering how beloved Pokemon is around the world, it’s clear fans will continue to find inventive ways to express their passion for the franchise.
