Fan Art Imagines The Legend of Zelda’s Link in Deltarune’s Art Style

One creator has reinvented Link from ‘The Legend of Zelda’ in the retro pixel-art style of Deltarune. Sharing their work on social media, they introduced this fusion to both the Deltarune and Zelda gaming communities, adding their name to the extensive collection of imaginative fan art produced by enthusiasts.

The Legend of Zelda series, dating back to 1986 on the NES, is nearly as ancient as the video game industry itself. It introduced Link, a brave but silent protagonist, to the world who not only captured players’ hearts but also left an indelible mark on the industry. Although the initial game may not have been its finest hour, it set the stage for a string of titles that significantly influenced the medium, including A Link to the Past, Ocarina of Time, and Breath of the Wild. As such, The Legend of Zelda franchise has become one of the most renowned in gaming history. Despite visual transformations throughout the years due to different consoles and games, an artist recently reinterpreted Link in a distinctive style.

Artist Imagines Link in Deltarune’s Light and Dark World Styles

A user named Vi_22 on Reddit has posted a rendition of Link from The Legend of Zelda series, styled after Toby Fox’s popular game Deltarune. This new take is captivating due to the artist’s ability to mirror Link in the distinctive, whimsical pixel art fashion characteristic of the independent game. Vi_22 crafted two distinct versions of Link-one reflecting his typical appearance and color scheme from the game’s Light World, while another depicts his Dark World counterpart.

In the past, it’s been noted that Link’s appearance has significantly evolved from the initial Legend of Zelda game. Players are accustomed to seeing him in a pixelated style. However, Vi_22’s darker, more sinister interpretation of Link presents an intriguing and ominous twist. This new version features Link donning white clothes with pink accents on his wrists, sporting white eyes and hair, and possessing a piercing, disquieting demeanor that suggests he could have walked right out of Deltarune.

Fans of Deltarune have had an exciting first half of the year, with Toby Fox releasing Chapters 3 and 4 on June 5, coinciding with the launch of the Nintendo Switch 2. After eagerly anticipating its release since the 2021 debut of Chapter 2, players were thrilled by the news. However, they may still have a while to wait for Chapter 5, as Toby Fox recently hinted at a potential 2026 launch. As of August 4, it appears that Deltarune’s updates are complete, with a series of fixes having been implemented across all platforms for every chapter.
