A skillful Pokemon enthusiast created an unique monster resembling a distant cousin of Applin. This apple-themed creature first appeared in the Galar region, though it may not be as beloved by fans as other monsters, Applin continues to garner significant attention within the Pokemon community.
Back in 2019, I first encountered Applin – a charming hybrid between Grass and Dragon – in Pokemon Sword and Shield. While it may not be the strongest Gen 8 Pokemon, its endearing looks have made it quite popular among us players. Despite its exterior resembling a real-life fruit, Applin is actually a small, worm-like creature that’s been bound to an apple since birth. Fans express their love for their favorite Pokemon by featuring them in fan art, and Applin is no exception. However, there are times when fans create humorous pieces poking fun at these creatures, as one such Pokemon enthusiast did with Applin.
Reddit user Matratzfratz unveiled their unique concept of a Pokemon related to Applin called “Pebblin.” This fictional creature, as depicted in fan art, is both Bug and Rock-type, and much like Applin, it conceals itself under rocks. Pebblin has multiple evolutions, one of which is Towerin, resembling castle ruins. The accompanying description of the fan art subtly criticizes Applin, labeling it as a ‘fool’ and inferior to Pebblin. Users appreciated the artistic skills shown in the fan art, and many found the teasing aspect amusing.
Pokemon Fan Gives Applin an Adorable ‘Distant Relative’
Although Matratzfratz doesn’t often depict Applin in their work, other talented admirers have done so. For instance, one Pokemon enthusiast created regional variations of Applin inspired by desserts and transformed it into a Fairy/Dragon hybrid. Following the launch of Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, Applin has gained three evolutions, including a three-stage evolution, making Galar’s Applin an ideal canvas for fans to unleash their creative talents.
In the highly-anticipated Sweet Discoveries event for Pokemon GO, starting April 24 to April 29, a new Gen 8 Pokemon, Applin, along with its evolutionary line, will be introduced. However, adding these characters to your Pokedex won’t come easy, as each form needs 200 Applin Candy. On the bright side, catching Pokemon during this event will grant double the usual amount of Candy. Additionally, players stand a better chance of finding shiny Delibird and shiny Skwovet.
