Highlights

  • Geralt will be part of The Witcher 4, according to his voice actor, Doug Cockle.
  • Even so, Cockle said that Geralt won’t be the upcoming game’s protagonist.
  • The Witcher 4 director Sebastian Kalemba has already hinted at Geralt’s return back in December 2023.

As a long-time fan of The Witcher series, I can’t help but feel a mix of excitement and apprehension upon hearing that Geralt will indeed return in The Witcher 4, albeit not as the main protagonist. Having followed Geralt’s adventures since the first game, it’s like welcoming an old friend back into my gaming life.

In the forthcoming game titled “The Witcher 4”, it is confirmed by one of the long-standing voice actors from CD Projekt Red’s successful series, that Geralt of Rivia will be a character. However, it’s important to note that Geralt might not have extensive on-screen appearances in the upcoming “Witcher” game.

CD Projekt Red initially announced in early 2022 that they were working on a game known as ‘Project Polaris’, which some speculate to be ‘The Witcher 4’. The game, fueling excitement among fans, will utilize Epic’s Unreal Engine 5 and signify the start of a new trilogy in the ‘Witcher’ series. Notably, it seems that Geralt may not be the central character this time around.

Geralt Is Apparently Returning in Witcher 4

Despite rumors, it seems the beloved monster hunter Geralt will appear in Project Polaris, as indicated by Doug Cockle, the voice actor for Geralt. This was mentioned in a video posted by YouTube channel Fall Damage at around the 7:20 mark. While Cockle can’t reveal details about the fourth The Witcher game, he did confirm that his character will be included. He stated, “Geralt will indeed be part of the game, but we don’t know how extensively, and the game won’t solely focus on Geralt.”

In a straightforward manner, Cockle implied Geralt’s participation in the game had already been confirmed by CD Projekt Red. However, it’s important to clarify that while the director of The Witcher 4, Sebastian Kalemba, hinted at Geralt’s possible return in an interview with Lega Nerd in December 2023, this was not a definitive confirmation. Instead, Kalemba described Project Polaris as an entry point for new series followers, suggesting they could explore Geralt’s adventures.

In other words, it’s confirmed that Geralt will appear in the game, but the exact extent remains uncertain, and the game’s primary focus is not on Geralt himself.

Geralt’s Voice Actor Still Hasn’t Seen The Witcher 4 Script, Maybe

Despite Cockle expressing confidence in his character’s potential return in The Witcher 4, he clarifies that he hasn’t yet laid eyes on the game’s script. Simultaneously, the actor admitted that he wouldn’t be at liberty to discuss it, even if he had seen it. “I might just be fibbing about not having the script,” he joked.

CD Projekt Red has announced that development on “Project Polaris” officially began in 2024, with many team members already involved by the end of 2023. Given that voice recording is typically done during the mid-development phase for AAA games, it’s likely that they haven’t initiated these sessions yet. However, actors associated with the project may have already reviewed parts of the game’s script. It’s also worth noting that Geralt’s presence hints that “The Witcher 4” might not significantly advance in time from “The Wild Hunt”.
