Players of Final Fantasy 14 are worried that Jonathan Bailey, known for his role in Wicked, might no longer be voicing the character G’raha Tia. While G’raha Tia appears in the newest Final Fantasy 14 update, some fans have noticed a difference in his voice acting and are questioning whether Bailey still voices the character.
On December 16th, a big update called “Into the Mist” (Patch 7.4) came out for Final Fantasy 14. This update included lots of new features, like making it much easier to customize your character’s appearance. It also finished the story for the Arcadion raid and started setting up the story for the next expansion, Dawntrail, of this popular online game.
Is Jonathan Bailey Still G’raha Tia in Final Fantasy 14 Patch 7.4?
A recent update to Final Fantasy 14 has some players worried about a change with the character G’raha Tia. While G’raha appears in voiced cutscenes as part of Patch 7.4, his voice sounds different than it usually does. This has led fans to believe that Jonathan Bailey, who has long voiced the character in English, may no longer be playing G’raha, and they fear the character has been recast.
G’raha Tia is a beloved character in Final Fantasy 14, frequently ranking as a fan favorite.
Many players will recognize Robbie Daymond, who plays G’raha Tia, from other popular roles. He’s played Prince Fiyero in Wicked, Dr. Henry Loomis in Jurassic World: Rebirth, and Lord Anthony Bridgerton in Bridgerton. This year, People Magazine named him “Sexiest Man Alive,” and Variety reported he was the highest-earning actor of 2025. Despite his success, Daymond has often expressed his fondness for playing G’raha, as he shared during an interview with BAFTA last year around the 5:10 mark while playing a Roll Play dice game.
Fans have noticed a possible change in G’raha Tia’s voice in the latest update, with some believing it sounds more like Jeremy Ang Jones, who voices Fandaniel, than his usual actor, Bailey. This has led to speculation about whether Bailey was replaced or was unavailable to record all of his lines, resulting in a temporary voice actor being used. Square Enix hasn’t addressed these concerns, and a representative for Bailey has stated that the actor will not be commenting on or discussing Final Fantasy XIV at this time.
Interestingly, the trailer for the Final Fantasy 14 update, Into the Mist, seemed to intentionally obscure lines spoken by the character G’raha. In the original Japanese trailer, G’raha has a line at 1:06, but the English version replaces it with dialogue from a different female character. The reason for this change isn’t known, but it might have been to cover up a voice actor change or because the original lines weren’t considered good enough for the trailer.
Jonathan Bailey Might Still Be G’raha Tia in Final Fantasy 14 After All
Image via Square Enix Despite the concerns about the audio quality of 7.4 G’raha, there’s a possible explanation. Voice actor Bailey, according to fan and fellow actor Josefumi on Twitter, may have been recording with a poor microphone or while dealing with a sore throat. Bailey previously mentioned experiencing a swollen tongue during performances of Company, but continued recording lines even between shows, determined to stay in character. These could be the lines he cautioned fans about in a recent video, or a similar issue may have occurred again, given his busy schedule with popular productions like Wicked and Jurassic World: Rebirth.
Honestly, until we hear something official from Final Fantasy 14 or the actor himself, it’s all just guessing right now. They have re-recorded lines before – remember when they did that with Wuk Lamat after Dawntrail came out? So, if Bailey is still voicing G’raha, we’ll probably see them do the same thing with that weird dialogue in patch 7.4 eventually. But even if he has been replaced, G’raha is so beloved, I’m sure he’ll still be a part of the story, and we’ll find out the truth soon enough.
