Fans Call Out Metal Gear Solid Delta Collector’s Edition ‘Trash’ Quality

Critics on social media are raising concerns about the $200 Collector’s Edition of Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, claiming that some of its items appear to be of subpar quality. Some passionate fans have even gone so far as to call these suspect collectibles “junk” or “trash.

In June 2024, Konami introduced the Collector’s Edition for the game MGS Delta: Snake Eater, which commenced with the pre-orders. The company announced that this limited edition would come with a miniature terrarium diorama, depicting the initial scene of the Virtuous Mission, where Naked Snake is shown kneeling to receive a radio call from headquarters.

1AmChris2 not only criticized the poorly designed protagonist in the Metal Gear Solid Delta collectible figure, but also pointed out that the terrarium setup was flawed as it didn’t come with anything to secure the greenery within the diorama. As a result, they had to use their own adhesive to put it together. Expressing dissatisfaction, the fan expressed they would no longer buy collector’s editions from Konami. This post rapidly gained thousands of upvotes and made it onto the r/MetalGearSolid subreddit front page just hours after being posted on August 28, sparking hundreds of comments poking fun at the apparent low quality of the $200 package.

In another popular Reddit post, user Mason12075 shared similar grievances about the Collector’s Edition. The user described the foliage as not living up to their initial expectations, calling it “artificial-looking moss that appears even worse in person and refuses to stay upright.” Ultimately, they expressed disappointment over spending $200 on the edition, describing the experience as a “disappointing slap in the face.

As of August 29, the Collector’s Edition for Metal Gear Solid Delta is reportedly sold out across most retailers in the United States, except for one Walmart reseller who offers it at $309.99. Some scalpers within the US and internationally have already listed it on eBay, with prices starting from $275 – a 37.5% price increase. Despite some criticism about the perceived lack of quality in the limited-edition package, the game itself is doing well, currently being the top-selling paid title on Steam. Critics seem to be enjoying it too, as Metal Gear Solid Delta review scores are almost as high as those of the original acclaimed version.
