Summary
- Fans are petitioning for a remaster of Mortal Kombat 9.
- The 2011 Mortal Kombat game is only playable on outdated hardware.
- It’s unclear if it or any other classic Mortal Kombat games will get remastered any time soon.
As a devoted Mortal Kombat fan, I’ve joined thousands of others in signing a petition to request a remaster of the iconic 2011 game, often referred to simply as Mortal Kombat or Mortal Kombat 9. The Mortal Kombat franchise has been a trailblazer in the fighting game industry since its debut in 1992, and I’ve grown up admiring its unparalleled action and iconic characters. Recently, we’ve been treated to exciting new additions like Mortal Kombat 1 and the Mortal Kombat movie series, but there’s something special about returning to the roots of this legendary franchise with a remastered edition of Mortal Kombat 9.
More recent installments of the Mortal Kombat series have received generally favorable feedback and garnered a wide following, yet some gamers still prefer the classic versions. Regrettably, choices for playing vintage Mortal Kombat games on contemporary gaming platforms are limited, leading to the rise of a petition advocating for their release, which currently boasts over 900 signatures.
Zach, an individual, has initiated a request on Change.org for a revamp of the 2011 ‘Mortal Kombat’ game, originally launched for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, then later on PC and PlayStation Vita. The petition highlights that it’s challenging to access this version due to its compatibility with outdated hardware and the Steam version being discontinued. The goal of the petition is to urge Warner Bros. and NetherRealm Studios to modernize the 2011 ‘Mortal Kombat’, enhancing graphics and reinstating online functionality for contemporary gaming platforms.
Mortal Kombat 9 Petition is Gaining Traction

It appears that a significant number of enthusiasts for the game “Mortal Kombat” are expressing their desire for the 2011 version to return. As of now, more than 700 signatures have been gathered, and supporters continue to grow. However, it’s uncertain if this petition will result in anything or garner an official response. At best, it shows that there is a demand for the 2011 “Mortal Kombat” game to be updated for contemporary gaming platforms.
The decision on whether the 2011 version of Mortal Kombat will be remastered is still undecided, however there’s a possibility that other classic Mortal Kombat games could receive an update. Interestingly, the creator of the franchise, Ed Boon, previously expressed interest in remastering the spin-off game Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks. Although no definitive plans have emerged from this poll, given the popularity of Mortal Kombat, it seems like a missed opportunity not to make these games compatible with modern gaming systems.
