Numerous artists within the Pokémon fanbase have been busy creating their own Mega Evolution concepts ahead of the release of Pokémon Legends: Z-A, later this year. One noteworthy piece of artwork depicts a potential appearance for a Mega Excadrill. The anticipated reintroduction of Mega Evolution has long been a desire among fans of the Pokémon series, and it’s no wonder that with the unveiling of Legends: Z-A last year during Pokémon Day, we’ve seen an influx of custom Mega Pokémon designs.
Throughout the year, an abundance of fanart for Legends: Z-A kept emerging even after no official updates about the game were announced until the recent Pokemon Presents event. At this event, fans finally got a glimpse of gameplay footage from Pokemon Legends: Z-A, marking its first inclusion of Mega Evolution since the Gen 7 titles. While certain aspects of the pre-release footage have sparked varying opinions, the influx of new information has ignited a flurry of discussion and rekindled the inspiration of many artists to create their own designs for Mega Pokemon.
There’s been renewed excitement among the community as details about potential new Mega Pokemon in Pokemon Legends: Z-A have surfaced online. While we’ll need to wait for official updates to confirm any new Mega Pokemon, a skilled artist from the Pokemon community has envisioned what a Mega Excadrill could possibly look like through their own unique design. HertzBurst, known within the community, has previously shared custom Mega designs and this time, they’ve drawn inspiration from Excadrill’s beta sprite colors. The Mega Excadrill concept even includes a fan-made Pokedex entry suggesting that Mega Evolution causes the Pokemon’s fingers to merge, making them more like drill bits in appearance.
Mega Excadrill Would Be a Great Addition for Future Pokemon Games
Despite the fact that this year’s Pokemon Presents event didn’t unveil any new Pokemon or Megas for Pokemon Legends: Z-A, it did offer some understanding of how the mechanic will function within the game. Unlike every previous core-series Pokemon title, Pokemon Legends: Z-A will incorporate real-time battles, and it seems that a Pokemon can only remain Mega Evolved for a limited duration during each battle.
In previous Pokémon games, once a Pokémon was Mega Evolved, it would stay that way throughout the battle. However, Pokemon Legends: Z-A‘s changes to this feature could be an attempt to limit the power of Mega Evolution, potentially indicating a focus on enhancing standard gameplay difficulty.
