Fans Still Want Some Gen 1 Pokemon to Get Baby Forms

Summary

  • Fans want Gen 1 Pokemon like Doduo and Lapras to get baby forms for the sake of cuteness and nostalgia.
  • Many players support fan-made baby Pokemon concepts, showing interest in potential new additions.
  • Despite a lack of new baby Pokemon in recent games, upcoming titles like Pokemon Legends: Z-A may include new ones.

Fans of Pokemon have been hoping for some time now that classic Gen 1 Pokemon like Doduo, Lapras, and Onix might eventually get added baby forms in their evolutionary lines. Even though the world of Pokemon has introduced over a thousand unique creatures to its Pokedex over the years, there are surprisingly few baby Pokemon, which seems surprising given how much fans love them.

Baby Pokemon have specific criteria to be recognized as such, either being the result of breeding or being the initial stage in an evolutionary line. However, the most fundamental, unspoken rule persists: baby Pokemon are always charmingly adorable. Due to their endearing appearances, baby Pokemon are highly sought after and frequently become the focus of merchandise, fan art, and fan affection. In more recent generations, though, the number of new baby Pokemon has noticeably dwindled, leading some players to express a desire for additional baby forms for earlier Pokemon.

A Reddit post titled “AutoGeneratedTitle” proposed an idea for a newborn Doduo form called Doduno. This design includes a smaller version of the bird Pokemon with a single head and leg. Many fans expressed their approval of this addition to Doduo’s evolutionary line, suggesting alternative names like Dosolo. A user named TwentyFour7 also shared a concept for baby forms of Gen 1 creatures Lapras (Lapi) and Onix (Minix). Fans eagerly commented that they want more adorable baby Pokemon for classic Gen 1 monsters such as these. Previously, players have created fan concepts for baby versions of Kanto Pokemon like Lickitung and Vulpix.

Pokemon Fans Want Baby Forms for Doduo, Lapras, and More Early Pokemon

Users in the comments section proposed an endearing concept for a baby version of Gen 3 Pokemon Tropius named Tropit. AutoGeneratedTitle’s submission has garnered over 570 upvotes, demonstrating the ongoing enthusiasm among Pokemon enthusiasts for new baby forms in upcoming games. To date, there are only 19 baby Pokemon in existence, with Toxel being the most recent addition in Pokemon Sword and Shield. Notably, a decade elapsed without a new baby form prior to Toxel’s introduction. Fans assumed that the sequence had ended and that Pokemon Scarlet and Violet would introduce more pre-evolutions, but this expectation was not met.

It has been announced by The Pokemon Company that “Pokemon Legends: Z-A” will be released on October 16th. Additionally, a Pokemon Presents event is planned for July 22nd, where further details about the upcoming game in the series will be shared. Although there are whispers of new Mega Evolutions being introduced in “Legends: Z-A”, it has not been verified if new baby Pokemon will also be added.
