The renowned actor Julian McMahon, famously recognized as Doctor Doom in two “Fantastic Four” films and the leading star of “Nip/Tuck,” has sadly passed away at the age of 56. After a private battle with cancer, his death was officially announced on the “Nip/Tuck” Facebook page last Friday. Throughout a career spanning over 35 years, McMahon made an indelible mark on the acting world through roles on multiple continents.
Initially, McMahon made a name for himself in 1990 on the popular Australian soap opera “Home and Away.” This success eventually paved his way to Hollywood, where he landed lead roles in TV shows such as “Profiler” and “Charmed.” In 2003, McMahon’s career took a significant leap when he was cast as Dr. Christian Troy on FX’s hit series “Nip/Tuck.” He portrayed Troy until 2010, appearing in a total of 100 episodes of the critically acclaimed medical drama before transitioning to his role as Doctor Doom fifteen years later.
As a passionate movie enthusiast, I was deeply saddened to learn about the passing of Julian McMahon from my favorite show “Nip/Tuck,” shared by Warner Bros. Entertainment on their Facebook page at 6:31 PM last Friday. Behind the scenes, he had been courageously fighting a private battle with cancer and still managed to grace us with his incredible talent on screen. My heart goes out to his family, friends, co-workers, and fans who share this loss.
Julian McMahon Had A Storied Acting Career, Is Best Known For Playing Doctor Doom
After achieving success with the series “Nip/Tuck“, McMahon landed his most significant film role to date, portraying Victor Von Doom in “Fantastic Four“. This wasn’t just any role; it was one of the main characters in one of the biggest movies of 2005. Additionally, McMahon had the opportunity to breathe life onto the big screen one of the most renowned villains ever created. Although McMahon’s portrayal of Doom didn’t perfectly align with the comic book version, he effectively showcased Doom’s intelligence, wrath, and fixation. McMahon returned to the role in 2007 for “Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer“.
Following his tenure as Doctor Doom, McMahon has consistently made appearances in highly praised movies such as Red, Swinging Safari, and Monster Party. More recently, McMahon graced the silver screen in two films last year: Nic Cage’s The Surfer and The Supremes at Earl’s All-You-Can-Eat. It’s worth noting that McMahon has been more recognized on television than on the big screen throughout his career.
Since his first appearance on “Home and Away” in 1990, Julian McMahon has consistently graced the small screen with his acting talent. Even after “Nip/Tuck” ended in 2010, he continued to appear in various shows across multiple networks. He starred in Syfy’s “Childhood’s End” and “Hunters”, appeared on BBC America’s “Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency”, acted in Hulu’s “Runaways”. Most notably, he portrayed Supervisory Special Agent Jess LaCroix on “FBI”, “FBI: Most Wanted”, and “FBI: International”. More recently, McMahon was featured in the 2025 Netflix series “The Residence”.
