Far Cry New Dawn Just Got a HUGE Upgrade

Summary

  • Ubisoft rolls out a 60 FPS update for Far Cry New Dawn on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.
  • The 60 FPS patch caused temporary disabling of Xbox’s FPS Boost to prepare for the update.
  • Ubisoft had previously updated other old games like Assassin’s Creed Syndicate for a better experience.

In an unexpected move, Ubisoft has disclosed plans to introduce a 60 FPS update for the PlayStation and Xbox versions of the game “Far Cry New Dawn.” Originally released in 2019, “Far Cry New Dawn” is a spin-off title that unfolds well after the storyline of “Far Cry 5.

As a fan, I’ve found myself drawn into the post-apocalyptic world of Far Cry New Dawn, crafted by Ubisoft Montreal. In this game, you join a band of survivors battling against rival factions over the scant resources that remain after a catastrophic event. Upon its release, it garnered mixed reviews, failing to match the acclaim heaped upon its predecessor. However, recent announcements from Ubisoft might lure those who haven’t yet experienced New Dawn into giving it a spin in the future.

On Twitter, the official account of Ubisoft Support announced unexpectedly that a 60 FPS update for Far Cry New Dawn would be released on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. This announcement came as a surprise since the game’s FPS Boost had to be temporarily disabled on Xbox Series consoles in preparation for the performance upgrade. The change will take effect starting January 31, 2025, at either 4PM PST or 7PM EST, ensuring a smooth rollout of the upcoming update. Only Xbox users will be affected by this temporary change, with PlayStation users not needing to do anything before receiving the 60 FPS patch. Although no specific release date for the patch has been announced yet, fans speculate that Ubisoft may introduce an improved frame-rate when Far Cry New Dawn becomes available on Xbox Game Pass on February 4, 2025.

Far Cry New Dawn is Yet Another Old Ubisoft Game to Get a Performance Patch

It’s not unusual for Ubisoft to update their older games like Far Cry New Dawn, which is nearly six years old, to run smoothly on current-generation consoles. For instance, they released a patch in November 2024 that improved the frame rate of Assassin’s Creed Syndicate (from 2015) to 60 FPS. Additionally, Ubisoft has been working on more than just performance improvements for their older titles – they recently added achievements for Far Cry 5 and Far Cry 6 on Steam.

Currently, Ubisoft is encountering challenging times due to escalating whispers about a possible third-party acquisition. To add to their troubles, the creator of Assassin’s Creed recently let go of several employees at the beginning of 2025. With such a grim situation, it is hoped that Ubisoft’s upcoming significant launch, Assassin’s Creed Shadows, will fare well and offer a much-needed morale lift for the company.
