FX has officially greenlit a live-action Far Cry TV series. The creators of Alien: Earth and It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia are developing the show, just as previously rumored.
The Far Cry series has been a popular part of the survival shooter genre since the first game came out in 2004. Each new game has offered a fresh setting and story in a different part of the world. What keeps players engaged is the exciting gunplay and memorable villains, often brought to life by well-known actors like Giancarlo Esposito and Troy Baker. It’s been four years since the last Far Cry game, Far Cry 6, and now a new project is in the works: a TV show.
FX’s Far Cry TV Show Announced, Created by Noah Hawley and Rob Mac

FX is creating a TV series based on the popular video game Far Cry, and Variety was the first to report the news. Noah Hawley, known for his work on Alien: Earth and Fargo, and Rob Mac from It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia will be executive producers. Like the games, the show will be an anthology series, meaning each season will feature a brand new story and cast. Rob Mac is confirmed to star in the first season, though specific details are still under wraps. The series will be available to stream on Hulu in the US and Disney+ in other countries.
Speaking on the collaboration, actor Rob Mac said the following,
Honestly, working with Noah Hawley is a total dream come true. Ubisoft has been amazing, letting us play around in one of the most legendary game worlds out there. And my team at FX? They’ve been super supportive the whole time, always believing in what we’re doing.
In addition, Noah Hawley spoke to Variety on the Far Cry show, saying,
Noah Hawley explains that what attracts him to the ‘Far Cry’ games is their anthology format – each installment explores similar ideas, much like each season of ‘Fargo.’ He’s thrilled to create a large-scale action series that can evolve annually, consistently examining the human condition through a unique and unpredictable perspective. He’s looking forward to collaborating with Rob and bringing their bold, unconventional style to the adaptation.
So far, there’s no news on when the show will air or who else will be joining the cast. However, considering Rob and Noah’s previous work with FX, the series seems to be in capable hands. As a fan, I’m excited to see how the first season unfolds.
