Chief Rebel’s Fellowship aims to be different from most RPGs. It won’t have the repetitive leveling often found in MMOs, offering a faster, more direct experience. Instead of a traditional endgame, it will feature an Endless mode, letting players continue their adventures indefinitely.
The early access version of *Fellowship* is launching soon, and Chief Rebel has designed this multiplayer online dungeon adventure (or ‘MODA’) with a fresh approach to how players progress. Instead of making players grind for hours before enjoying the best parts of the game, *Fellowship* aims to put the exciting dungeon experiences front and center. Game Rant spoke with designer Will Maiden and UX designer Ambjörn Olsson from the Chief Rebel team about this endgame focus and how the game is built for endless expansion and replayability.
How Fellowship’s Endless Mode Works
The Nature of Endless in Fellowship
The Endless mode in *Fellowship* is designed to fit how the game wants to make RPGs easier and more accessible. *Fellowship* aims to take the best parts of quick, online multiplayer games and apply them to RPGs, letting players jump right into dungeons with pre-made characters and quickly find groups using a simple matchmaking system.
But to keep *Fellowship* engaging, the challenges need to get increasingly difficult, and that’s where Endless comes into play. Olsson explained how the game will gradually lead players towards this increased difficulty, and how they’ll be prepared for it along the way.
In Fellowship, you’ll begin with “leagues” – a tutorial system designed to teach you how our dungeons work. As you advance through these leagues, you’ll learn new gameplay mechanics and face tougher enemies, ultimately getting you ready for the challenge of Endless mode!
As a big fan, I was really interested to hear the developers talk about how the different leagues in the game actually work as a way to show how far you’ve progressed. They went into more detail about this, especially when discussing the upcoming *Fellowship* and its super challenging Endless difficulty. Apparently, the Maiden league gave them a chance to explain exactly how Endless will feel compared to the normal game, and what kind of hurdles we can expect to face. It sounds intense!
Fellowship’s Endless Endgame

We designed the game to have something for everyone. Players who enjoy a more relaxed experience can jump right into Quickplay and start playing immediately, without worrying about complicated systems or gear. For those looking for a challenge, the league system offers a way to progress and earn better rewards. We anticipate many players will find a comfortable stopping point within the leagues, but we hope most will be motivated to keep improving and tackle harder difficulties. Ultimately, we don’t really see an ‘end’ to the game – it’s about continuous progression and enjoyment.
Reaching the final stage, Endless Unlocking, is a major accomplishment. After that, success depends entirely on how skilled players are. Because loot is limited, players will need to master their characters, understand the dungeons, and adapt to the increasingly challenging obstacles. For our most competitive players, this is what Fellowship will ultimately be about.
Like many online games, *Fellowship* will use the classic tank-healer-DPS team setup. However, its Endless mode offers a unique twist. Instead of a traditional endgame, Endless mode keeps going indefinitely, even after players reach the highest level of gear. The game will continue to get harder, ensuring a constant challenge and preventing it from becoming too easy.
