FF Gun Slingers Ranked! You Won’t BELIEVE #1!

Summary

  • Final Fantasy 7 introduced guns to the series in 1997, adding a variety of gun-wielding heroes and villains.
  • Characters like Prompto, Yuna, and King showcase strong gun skills in various Final Fantasy games.
  • Vincent, Barret, and Rufus also exhibit impressive gun abilities in different Final Fantasy titles.

As a devoted fan, I’ve always appreciated how slowly guns were integrated into the world of Final Fantasy. For the majority of games on the NES and SNES, the most effective ranged weapons tended to be bows or crossbows. However, everything changed with the arrival of Final Fantasy 7, where an array of characters – both heroes and villains – were armed with guns, a fitting representation given it was set in the modern era of 1997, mirroring our own world.

Ever since, numerous marksmen have graced the worlds of “Final Fantasy” games and various related content, ranging from anime to literature. In this discussion, let’s evaluate the marksmanship abilities of these characters, disregarding any other traits they may possess. Who among them wields the most effective firearms?

8. Prompto (Final Fantasy 15)

Smile And Shoot

In the world of “Final Fantasy 15”, Prompto serves as one of the four companions, with Noctis taking the lead role. Despite his jovial demeanor and apparent enthusiasm for photography over firearms, Prompto proves to be a valuable asset in the game, offering support when needed.

In the DLC episode, his abilities are more clearly demonstrated since he’s the sole playable character, possessing various moves that make him both an action hero and a master of stealth. While he might not be the most powerful gunslinger within the series, Prompto manages to complete tasks effectively.

7. Yuna (Final Fantasy 10-2)

From Summoner To Gunner

Initially, Yuna was a potent Summoner in Final Fantasy X, but she swapped her staff for a pair of guns in the sequel, Final Fantasy X-2. This spin-off game has a more lighthearted tone, and in it, Yuna and her team members can swap between various roles using something called Dresspheres.

Initially, Yuna takes on the role of a Gunner, armed with two pistols and multiple enhanced abilities to keep her foes in rhythm. Additionally, there’s another gun-related job, the Gun Mage. Regardless of which one she chooses, Yuna demonstrates exceptional proficiency with bullets.

6. King (Final Fantasy Type-0)

An Ace Cadet

In the game “Final Fantasy Type-0,” King is among the various characters you can control. The storyline revolves around a military academy, and each student specializes in a unique weapon. Notably, King prefers dual firearms, and his movements are swift and stylish.

In this action role-playing game, players quickly grasp King’s power due to his agility and ability to effortlessly eliminate foes at a distance. On the other hand, Cater, another powerful character, functions more as a magical gunner.

5. Irvine (Final Fantasy 8)

A Sniper With Nerves

In Final Fantasy 8, Irvine boasts grandly, but when it comes to his critical sniper mission, he shows cowardice. Despite his jittery demeanor, Irvine remains a valuable party member who prefers wielding shotguns. The game features Limit Breaks, and Irvine’s are called ‘Shots’.

This version tries to maintain the original meaning while making it more accessible for readers.

As a dedicated gamer, I personally take pride in upgrading my character’s ammunition arsenal for optimal battle performance. By purchasing and crafting unique ammo types, I can significantly boost his strength in combat. Timing the triggers just right allows me to unleash an impressive amount of damage on my enemies.

Laguna, with his lethal machine gun, deserves recognition as a temporary party member who brings a powerful addition to the team.

4. Vincent (Dirge of Cerberus: Final Fantasy 7)

Three Barrels Of Fun

In the game “Final Fantasy 7”, Vincent was initially a hidden or secret party member. However, his character has now been officially recognized and integrated into the storyline (canonized). Although he isn’t playable in the remake series at this point, fans can anticipate controlling him in future installments since he is expected to join the party during “Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth”.

In the original game, Vincent was quite formidable, but he truly showcased his talents in his standalone sequel, Dirge of Cerberus: Final Fantasy 7. Interestingly, the name “Cerberus” also refers to his weapon, which could be customized with various attachments. This allowed players to transform it into pistols, shotguns, or even sniper rifles, making Vincent a character of great adaptability.

3. Barret (Final Fantasy 7 Remake)

A One Armed Cannon

Barret hails from the world of Final Fantasy 7 and boasts one of the most impressive weapons within the game’s arsenal. A fateful accident resulted in Barret losing an arm, to which he subsequently affixed a Gatling Gun that has always been visually striking. However, the true extent of its power was best showcased during the remakes.

In the game “Final Fantasy 7 Remake”, Barret has an extraordinary ability – he can shatter concrete using just his gun arm, demonstrating a remarkable level of strength. And as we progress through the games, including “Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth”, it becomes evident that this freedom fighter is far from being physically disabled.

2. Rufus (Final Fantasy 7 Remake)

Beware The Coins

Rufus, a character from Final Fantasy 7, stands out as one worth noting and he serves as the antagonist. In the original game, players will find only one boss battle against him, which is relatively simple. However, in the remake of Final Fantasy 7 and its sequel, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, encounters with Rufus become significantly more challenging.

In these new versions, his leadership among The Turks becomes evident as he skillfully handles two shotguns, keeping players under control due to his swift reactions. His coin shots, which are lethal, would undoubtedly make fans excited to team up with him in the final remake, although it’s unlikely that they will have that opportunity.

1. Kaze (Final Fantasy: Unlimited)

Soil Boy

  • Director: Mahiro Maeda
  • Studio: Gonzo
  • Released: October 2, 2001 (Japan)
  • Episodes: 25

In conclusion, we’re veering slightly from our usual path as the last character is inspired by Kaze, who hails from the initial anime series titled “Final Fantasy: Unlimited.” His appearance resembles that of Vincent and his dialogue style mirrors Vincent’s, which means he doesn’t talk much.

This enigmatic gunslinger doubles as a Summoner, and instead of regular ammunition, he uses unique earth bullets in his weapon to conjure up companions such as Ifrit and Titan. It’s reminiscent of the summoning skills Yuna possesses, and this ability alone elevates Kaze to the top gunman within the series. Unfortunately, his character seems to have faded into obscurity now.
