FF14: How To Get The Major-General Minion

As a seasoned gamer with countless hours spent traversing digital realms, I can confidently say that Final Fantasy 14 has truly outdone itself in terms of collectibles and unlockables. The Major-General minion, a shark with legs no less, is a testament to the game’s attention to detail and the sheer joy it brings to its players.

In Final Fantasy 14, there’s a wealth of content for players to discover and amass. This ranges from customizable character traits like unique hairstyles, to an assortment of mounts they can acquire. Some dedicated players might spend countless hours chasing after every item, or even just the rarer, more elusive ones that require significant time investment.

While not all desirable items are hard to acquire, it’s true that some might require a bit of time or engaging in specific classes and activities. However, this doesn’t make them challenging to unlock. Take the Cornservant minion, for instance; you can easily get it through quests. On the other hand, the captivating Major-General shark minion calls for some participation in the fishing activities within the game. Here’s a guide on how to unlock the adorable shark minion in Final Fantasy 14.

How To Unlock FF14 Shark Minion

FF14: How To Get The Major-General Minion

In the game of Final Fantasy XIV, the Major-General is a unique minion, often described as a shark with legs. This creature was introduced during the Shadowbringers expansion. To obtain it, you need to achieve “No More Fish in the Sea I”. This achievement can be unlocked by playing the Fisher job and actively engaging in Ocean Fishing.

To get the Fisher profession, players should head to Lower Decks in Limsa Lominsa and chat with N’nmulika (position: 7.9, 14.2). This Land Disciples job can be acquired if you already have any other job at level one. Once you accept the quest titled “Ambition of a Fisher“, saying yes will finish it off and initiate another, named “The Fisher’s Path“. Successfully completing this quest will make the profession accessible to you, also providing an introductory rod and bait as your initial equipment.

Accessing ‘Ocean Fishing’ is as straightforward! This activity, available exclusively for Fishers, enables a team of 24 players to sail aboard the Endeavor and fish on the open sea. To initiate it, first, secure the Fisher job. Once achieved, seek out the quest titled “‘All the Fish in the Sea'” from Fhilsnoe (X: 7.8, Y: 14.5) at the Fishermen’s Guild. Upon completion of this quest, you can engage in Ocean Fishing!

In contrast to numerous other activities I enjoy, Ocean Fishing has a unique schedule – it’s only accessible at specific intervals. Specifically, every two hours (in Earth Time), players are given a 15-minute window to sign up with Dryskthota (X: 3.0 Y: 12.7) in the Lower Decks of Limsa Lominsa, usually found at the Ferry Docks. This means that it’s crucial for me to stay aware of real-world time so I don’t miss out on my chance to join this exciting activity!

The ship sets sail regardless if there are only 24 fishermen or none. It may take various paths, and specific lures work better for certain fish species in specific areas. For tips on achieving a high score in Ocean Fishing within Final Fantasy XIV, check out the guide provided.

To obtain the Major-General minion, keeping an eye on the score is essential, but don’t worry, it’s not overly challenging. The achievement “No More Fish in the Sea I” can be unlocked by accumulating 5,000 points during a single voyage specifically on the Indigo route. Therefore, remember to choose this route when venturing out Ocean Fishing. A few attempts should yield enough points, so the main factor requiring patience is waiting for the next ship to become available.

After you’ve earned the achievement, head over to the Achievements section to collect your prize and upgrade your character to a Major-General!
