- While trailer views don’t ensure box office success, the film is statistically on the right track for its May 16, 2025 release.
In “Final Destination: Bloodlines,” an eerie odor of mortality has resurfaced once more, and millions of spectators can’t seem to look away. Just a day after its initial trailer release, it’s already among the most-watched trailers ever in the horror genre.
Following a fourteen-year break, New Line Cinema once again delves into the legendary Final Destination horror series, where Death, an unrelenting force, seeks vengeance against those momentarily fortunate enough to evade its initial icy grip. The sixth installment of the franchise, titled Final Destination, sees Kaitlyn Santa Juana, Teo Briones, Richard Harmon, Gabrielle Rose, and Rya Kihlstedt in the leading roles, portraying a family ensnared by Death’s relentless plan. They may be confronting its harshest retribution yet while searching for eternal redemption.
Final Destination: Bloodlines Boasts the Second Most Viewed Horror Trailer in History
178.7 Million Views in 24 Hours
The teaser for “Final Destination: Bloodlines” premiered on February 3, while the full trailer was unveiled on March 25. As reported by Deadline, this brief two-and-a-half-minute sneak peek garnered a staggering 178.7 million views across all platforms (including TikTok) within its first day of release, making it the second most watched horror trailer ever – surpassed only by New Line Cinema’s 2017 remake of “It,” which garnered 200 million views. Even if we exclude the sometimes debated impact of TikTok views, the trailer for “Final Destination: Bloodlines” still outperforms the first-day view count of another highly anticipated horror movie, “28 Years Later.
Is it evident that horror enthusiasts are eager to purchase what New Line Cinema is offering, given the potential reoccurrence of Death’s intricate Rube Goldberg-esque strategies, such as shards in beverages, hidden garden tools, and ominous lawnmowers? This expectation might stem from the fact that the Final Destination series has proven to be financially successful — accumulating $666 million across six films with a total production budget of only $154 million. Moreover, it’s become a cult classic on a global scale.
Rise of the Beasts” (released in 2024) only managed to earn $441 million at the box office. Similarly, “Thor: Love and Thunder,” which boasted 209 million trailer views (the second highest for a non-Avengers Marvel Cinematic Universe IP at the time), didn’t meet the billion-dollar or near-billion-dollar success some had anticipated, instead earning $760 million.
Despite any reservations, the upcoming film “Final Destination: Bloodlines” appears statistically sound in its direction. The trailer indicates that directors Zach Lipovsky and Adam Stein intend to maintain the essence that made the earlier films popular while introducing fresh elements. Given the 25-year success of this franchise, it would be a significant gamble to doubt that this movie will continue along the same path.
Final Destination: Bloodlines is scheduled for release on May 16, 2025.
