As a seasoned gamer with a soft spot for Final Fantasy 14, I can’t help but feel the excitement bubbling up as Heavensturn returns once more! With its roots deep in the Lunar New Year celebrations and this year being the Year of the Snake, it promises to be an unforgettable spectacle. The prospect of earning new cosmetic rewards, including the Great White Tsuchinoko minion, has me counting down the days.

During the 2024 holiday period, the annual Heavensturn event of Final Fantasy 14 was unveiled, with a theme centered around the approaching Year of the Snake. From New Year’s Eve through mid-January, Final Fantasy 14 players can join in the Heavensturn celebrations and acquire new cosmetic rewards for their collections.

Yearly across Eorzea, the Heavensturn celebration is similar to the Lunar New Year in our world, featuring different animal emblems. During the 2024 Heavensturn, marking the Year of the Dragon, players of Final Fantasy 14 received a chocobo chick minion adorned with decorations reminiscent of Seiryu, one of the Four Legendary Beasts from Far Eastern folklore and a boss in the Stormblood expansion. Unlike other story-based quests in Final Fantasy 14, the Heavensturn event quests are generally humorous and brief, taking only a few minutes to complete from start to finish.

In the final days of the Starlight Celebration within Final Fantasy 14, Square Enix has announced that they’ll provide another quest for players to welcome the New Year. The Heavensturn event in Final Fantasy 14 is scheduled to start on December 31, 10:00 AM Eastern and end on January 16, 9:59 AM Eastern in the following year. This means that participants will have roughly two weeks to join the Heavensturn event.

Final Fantasy 14 Heavensturn Returns for 2025

Players can acquire unique prizes, such as the Oriental New Year’s Meal and Springtide Fan Stand housing items, along with a new pet minion called the Great White Tsuchinoko, by finishing time-limited quests in Heavensturn. This charming minion, modeled after the beloved Great Serpent of Ronka from Final Fantasy 14, is covered in mochi. Additionally, items from previous Heavensturn events will be reduced on the Final Fantasy 14 Online Store starting December 31.

2024 saw both the release of Square Enix’s Dawntrail and a significant graphical overhaul, but 2025 promises to keep Final Fantasy 14 busy too. We’ll have to wait and see what exciting plans Square Enix has for players during the Year of the Snake.
