Naoki Yoshida, the director and producer of Final Fantasy 14, recently mentioned that the team is looking into adding more ways to customize characters, though he didn’t share any specifics. He also confirmed they’ve heard player requests, like improvements to Explorer Mode, and are considering them for future updates to the game.
Naoki Yoshida recently addressed player concerns following the release of Final Fantasy 14‘s Patch 7.4, “Into the Mist,” on December 16th. The update included new story quests continuing the game’s main narrative, the conclusion to the popular Arcadion raid series, and adjustments to character classes, with some unexpected changes for Gunbreaker and Red Mage. However, the update was plagued by server problems, causing random disconnections for players in North America. While a patch was released on Christmas Day to fix some bugs, issues with the Aether, Primal, Crystal, and Dynamis data centers continued to be a problem.
Final Fantasy 14 Considering More Character Customization Options
During a recent broadcast, Final Fantasy 14 producer Yoshida answered questions about the game’s future. He confirmed that the team has already laid the groundwork for adding more character customization options in upcoming updates. They are also considering adding Alliance Raid instances to Explorer Mode and making older, powerful weapons available for purchase, which would help players manage their inventory. Yoshida also announced that the Korean version of the game will be updated to match the global and Chinese versions by the time Patch 7.5 releases in spring 2026. This update will include a new Ultimate raid and other features, such as the Beastmaster Limited Job.
So, Yoshida just finished answering questions from players on the Japanese Pandaemonium server, and the recap dropped right after. He mentioned they’re looking into letting us customize our character’s skin tones and colors, which is awesome! But the biggest news? It sounds like Final Fantasy XIV is definitely coming to the Switch 2! Creative Studio 3 already ported Final Fantasy Tactics to the new console, and we know FF14 can run on the Steam Deck with a little tweaking, so it feels pretty likely. Yoshida said we’ll get more official details at the upcoming FanFests. Mark your calendars – the North American one is April 24th and 25th, 2026, at the Anaheim Convention Center in California. I’m already hyped!
Final Fantasy 14 Has Plenty of Content Planned for Early 2026

The game’s director, Yoshida, has hinted that his future plans could dramatically change the game, almost like a fresh start, but specifics are still unknown. While the current expansion, Dawntrail, still has one more large update planned, it remains to be seen what 2026 will hold for Final Fantasy 14 players.
