Based on comments from producer Naoki Yoshida, talks with Nintendo about a possible port of Final Fantasy 14 onto the Switch 2 have been encouraging. Whispers that Final Fantasy 14, among other Final Fantasy games, might appear on the Nintendo Switch 2 have been circulating since before its launch in June, so fans of the series may have exciting prospects to anticipate down the line.
Ever since its massive comeback in 2013, I’ve been hooked on Final Fantasy 14, a game that’s taken over a big chunk of the MMO world and raked in a fortune for Square Enix ever since. Recently, with Patch 7.3 releasing earlier this month, the main story arc of Dawntrail came to an end, sparking discussions among the community about what’s next from the developers. The game is playable on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S, but rumors suggest that we Nintendo Switch owners might get a taste of Eorzea in the not-so-distant future!
Final Fantasy 14 Producer Says Square Enix Has Had ‘Positive Discussions’ With Nintendo Over Future Switch 2 Port
In a recent chat at Gamescom, producer Naoki Yoshida of Final Fantasy 14 hinted at potential good news for Nintendo Switch 2 users in the future. Yoshida expressed that efforts are being made to bring this news to fruition and also suggested that Final Fantasy 16 might find its way onto the Switch 2 as well. Yoshida aims to make both Final Fantasy 14 and 16 accessible to as many players as possible, so he encourages everyone to stay hopeful for future possibilities. However, he asks for a bit more time before any official announcements can be made.
When discussing the advantages of launching Final Fantasy 14 on the Switch 2, Yoshida mentioned that players could engage in complex and demanding content on their PC, but they could also unwind at home with the Switch 2 in hand, doing gatherer and crafter content. Yoshida is excited about the prospect of new users discovering the MMO genre through Final Fantasy 14 on the Nintendo Switch 2, as it may introduce the game to individuals who have never played an MMO before.

As a devoted fan, I must admit that recently, I’ve noticed a dip in both players and profits within the world of Final Fantasy 14. The Dawntrail expansion, while intriguing, has sparked varied reactions among us players. Yet, many in our community remain unfazed by this trend, attributing it to the typical ebb and flow that MMOs experience between significant updates.
Moreover, the Dawntrail heralds a fresh chapter in our beloved game’s storyline. After the phenomenal success of the Endwalker expansion in late 2021, it’s understandable that the creators need time to shape this new narrative according to our expectations. We, the players, are eagerly waiting to immerse ourselves once again in this captivating tale.

At Gamescom Opening Night Live on August 19th, it was revealed that there will be a crossover between the upcoming versions of “Final Fantasy 14” and “Monster Hunter Wilds”. This event is scheduled to start in early October. In “Monster Hunter Wilds”, players will encounter a new monster and meet characters from the “Final Fantasy” series, such as Chocobo and Cactuar. On the other side, “Final Fantasy 14” players who have reached level 100 and finished the main scenario quest called “Dawntrail” will fight against Guardian Arkveld.
