On September 30, Final Fantasy 14 added new cosmetic items to its Online Store to celebrate the release of Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles. However, these new items caused some worry among Final Fantasy 14 players, as the total cost was higher than the original price of Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles.
Final Fantasy Tactics first came out on the PlayStation in 1997 and takes place in the war-torn world of Ivalice. The story centers around the War of the Lions, a conflict that puts characters such as Ramza Beoulve and Delita Heiral against each other as they become entangled in a complex plot. While FF Tactics received a port for the PSP, called The War of the Lions, it hadn’t been available on newer systems until 2025. The Ivalice Chronicles offers both the original PlayStation version – now with an improved translation – and an Enhanced Edition featuring voice acting and several other improvements to make the game more enjoyable.
Final Fantasy 14’s New Cosmetics Cost More Combined Than Their Inspiration
I was really excited to see that Final Fantasy 14 was giving a nod to Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles! They released some new cosmetics based on characters from that game, which is awesome. You can now buy Ramza’s Attire, Ovelia’s Attire, and Gaffgarion’s Attire in the Final Fantasy 14 Online Store. They also added the Final Fantasy Tactics Orchestrion Set. Each character outfit costs $18 before tax, and the Orchestrion Set is $15. While those prices seem pretty standard for this kind of stuff, a lot of players on the Final Fantasy 14 subreddit noticed something funny. If you buy everything, it comes out to $69 before tax. That’s actually about $19 more than what Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles originally cost when it came out! It’s a bit of a wild comparison, but people definitely noticed.
The recent offers in the Online Store aren’t the only things players have been excited about. In July, Final Fantasy 14 introduced the Crystarium Rebel’s Attire, a costume based on the outfit Alisaie Leveilleur wore during the Shadowbringers expansion. Although any Job in FF14 can wear the Crystarium Rebel’s Attire, most of the pieces it’s made of are already obtainable in the game.
Both Final Fantasy 14 and Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles were created by Creative Studio 3, and Naoki Yoshida was the producer for both games. As Final Fantasy 14 gets ready to release Patch 7.35 on October 7, it’s still unknown what other customization options Square Enix has in store.
