Final Fantasy 14 Shares Preview of Highly Requested Dawntrail Feature

During a recent livestream celebrating its 10th anniversary in South Korea, *Final Fantasy 14* showed off more of its upcoming strategy board feature, including two new screenshots. Players can expect this feature to be added with Patch 7.4 of the *Dawntrail* expansion, likely sometime this winter.

The strategy board, or raid planner, is a new feature in *Final Fantasy 14* designed to help players easily coordinate and share tactics for challenging battles. It’s a customizable screen where players can place icons representing different elements of a fight. The main area of the board can even be shaped like the arenas used in raids and trials. Players can move icons for player roles and markers showing where attacks will happen, tailoring the board to their raid group’s needs. Square Enix first showed off the strategy board after announcing *Dawntrail*, but it hasn’t been released to players yet.

Final Fantasy 14’s Strategy Board Feature Is Coming Together

While some of the biggest features in the upcoming *Dawntrail* expansion for *Final Fantasy 14* aren’t quite ready, Square Enix recently gave fans a sneak peek at one of them: a new strategy board. During a 10th Anniversary livestream in South Korea, Square Enix showed off two screenshots of the board in action, using examples from difficult fights. The first image showed how players could plan for the AAC Cruiserweight M1 (Savage) raid, marking the boss, Dancing Green, with a large purple icon and smaller enemies (“adds”) with red icons. The second screenshot displayed different arena layouts, including circular and cross-shaped designs.

Before the release of *Final Fantasy 14*’s Update 7.3, the game’s director, Naoki Yoshida, explained that the raid planner feature was delayed to ensure it was fully polished. He also stated that the strategy board is planned to be added with Update 7.4, which will likely coincide with the end of the current raid storyline, The Arcadion. Considering how often *Final Fantasy 14* releases new content, Update 7.4 is expected to arrive in either December or January.

The release date for Patch 7.4 will depend on whether Square Enix decides to postpone it to avoid clashing with the busy winter holidays. In the meantime, Final Fantasy 14 players can enjoy the Monster Hunter Wilds crossover event, which begins in early October.
