Final Fantasy 14’s 7.4 Update Includes Extra Change To Controversial Feature

Starting with Patch 7.4, the developers of Final Fantasy 14 are making the Forked Tower raid more accessible. This raid, which was part of the Dawntrail expansion, received criticism for being overly difficult and having high requirements for players. While the changes are coming, it’s currently unknown exactly how much easier the Forked Tower will become.

The Forked Tower: Blood raid, first introduced in Patch 7.25 along with the Occult Crescent, is a large-scale encounter for 48 players. It’s only accessible through the South Horn field operation. While not required for the main storyline, the raid—named after a dungeon from Final Fantasy 5—provides difficult challenges and special rewards, like the unique Demon Haul mount. However, it received some criticism because its mechanics could heavily penalize the entire raid team for a single player’s error.

Final Fantasy 14’s Forked Tower Raid Will Be More Accessible To New Challengers

Following the release of Patch 7.38, which fixed some problems with the Pilgrim’s Traverse dungeon in Final Fantasy 14, Square Enix shared more about its plans for future updates to the Dawntrail expansion. Starting with Patch 7.4, the difficult Forked Tower: Blood raid will be adjusted to make it easier for more players to complete. While the specifics of these changes, and when they’ll be implemented, are still unknown, they will be released alongside new accessories called Occult Crescent and three new job options—Dancer, Gladiator, and Mystic Knight.

After hearing what players had to say, Final Fantasy 14 updated its systems in July to let established groups quickly access the Occult Crescent and the Forked Tower: Blood raid. Square Enix had already announced that a new raid, Forked Tower: Magic, would be coming in 2026. Now, due to player suggestions, this new raid will launch with both Normal and Savage difficulty levels, giving players more to do before the next Final Fantasy 14 expansion releases.

The latest major update for Final Fantasy 14, called Into The Mist, arrives on December 16th. It adds new story missions and concludes the Arcadion raid storyline. Players will have to wait and see how they feel about the changes coming to the Forked Tower.
