As a seasoned gamer with over two decades of experience under my belt and a collection that could rival any gaming museum, I’ve seen it all – from the pixelated glory of the 90s to the jaw-dropping graphics of today. And let me tell you, the PC version of Final Fantasy 16 is a testament to just how far we’ve come in this beautiful journey called video gaming.
The computer version of Final Fantasy 16 largely mirrors the console edition in terms of content, but when considering graphics and performance, PC users enjoy greater flexibility with customization options. Yet, due to the game’s high system requirements, some players may encounter significant drops in frame rates.
Before embarking on your quest to find all Eikons in Final Fantasy 16, consider devoting a moment to fine-tune your game settings for an optimal playing experience. During our testing, we’ve noticed some crucial adjustments that could significantly improve gameplay for users with lower to mid-range PCs. Here are some of the key settings we recommend you take into account:
Optimized Graphics Settings For FF16 PC
Our findings are derived from playing Final Fantasy 16 on an ASUS TUF Gaming A15 notebook equipped with an AMD Ryzen 7 7735HS CPU running at 3.2GHz, a dedicated NVIDIA RTX 4050 Laptop graphics card, and 16GB of memory.
On the Ultra settings of a 1080p preset, Final Fantasy 16 typically maintains an average FPS between 60 and 80 during combat scenes, occasionally peaking over 120 in less action-packed sequences. However, it can also drop to approximately 44 frames per second in unexpected instances or when moving around towns. Despite the intense battle with Garuda, the game never dropped below 60 FPS. Yet, returning to the Hideaway caused the frame rate to drop back down to about 40 FPS.
It’s also important to mention that the high-frame-rate (FPS) trend persists across all graphic settings, indicating that most of these options don’t significantly affect performance. Yet, adjusting these settings can yield substantial FPS improvements:
- DLSS/FSR Frame Generation: This setting alone added roughly 20 FPS to our average frame rate. DLSS 3, which is exclusive to NVIDIA RTX 40-series users, grants better picture quality. FSR 3 will make the game look slightly worse, but it works on most GPUs, and the performance is about equal to DLSS on our end.
- Upscaling: Setting this to Quality or Balanced yields better frames for FF16 compared to Performance mode.
- Dynamic Resolution Scaling: Should the above upscaling options fail to provide meaningful gains, leave Dynamic Resolution Scaling on.
- Graphical Fidelity: This setting affects overall level of detail. Medium offers a small FPS boost at minimal visual loss.
- Fullscreen: While it may be a machine-related issue, going from Borderless to Fullscreen reduced stuttering and prevented frame rates from dipping below 40 in most cases.
Other Useful Settings
As a gamer, I often find myself tweaking graphical settings to get the best balance between visual quality and smooth gameplay. While most options can be cranked up to High, it’s crucial to pay special attention to Ambient Occlusion, Screen Space Reflections, and Textures, especially for gamers with lower-end GPUs. These features can significantly affect performance. If your system is on the slower side, consider turning off Ambient Occlusion and Screen Space Reflections, and setting Textures to Low or Medium. However, if you’ve got plenty of Video Random Access Memory (VRAM), you might be able to keep Textures at High without any noticeable impact on performance.
Installing mods for Final Fantasy 16 also brings about satisfactory outcomes. A tool known as FFXVIFix eliminates the frame rate limit during cutscenes and provides support for ultrawide resolutions. Additionally, mods that boost Final Fantasy 16’s CPU priority can contribute to improving the game’s overall stability.
