Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is officially launching on June 3, 2026, for both the Nintendo Switch 2 and Xbox Series X/S. The news was first revealed during the Nintendo Direct Partner Showcase, and Xbox quickly followed with confirmation that the game will also be released on its consoles in June.
Released on PlayStation 5 in February 2024, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth – the second game in Square Enix’s Final Fantasy 7 remake – was immediately a critical success. It earned a 92 score from top critics on OpenCritic, with 97% of reviewers recommending it. After launching on PC to similar praise eleven months later, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is now planned to be available on Nintendo Switch 2 and Xbox.
Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth Launches on June 3 for Nintendo Switch 2 and Xbox
Square Enix recently announced that Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth will be available on Nintendo Switch 2 on June 3, 2026, during the latest Nintendo Direct. Shortly after, the game also appeared on the Xbox store with the same release date, and pre-orders are now open. Nintendo eShop pre-orders are expected to launch within the next few hours. If you pre-order Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, you’ll receive two special in-game items: Summoning Materias and armor pieces.
The recent Nintendo Direct trailer for Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth offered a quick preview of the game’s story and how it plays. It showcased new side quests, fast-paced combat, and different ways to explore the open world. Judging by the trailer footage – which may not fully reflect the final game – Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth appears to run smoothly on the Switch 2, with no obvious sacrifices in graphics or performance.
Although we’ll have to wait and see how FF7 Rebirth actually plays on the Nintendo Switch 2, Square Enix has a good track record of making games run well on the system. Their recent Switch 2 port of Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade has been widely praised, with critics noting it’s a very accurate port with minimal technical issues. According to Digital Foundry, the Switch 2 version is comparable to the PS4 version of FF7 Remake Intergrade, despite originally being a PS5 game. Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is a more complex game because of its open world, but Square Enix appears confident it will run smoothly on the Switch 2.
Square Enix has released several games for the Nintendo Switch 2, including remastered versions of Bravely Default: Flying Fairy, Final Fantasy Tactics, Dragon Quest 1+2, and the new game Octopath Traveler 0. While these games might not be as technically challenging as Final Fantasy 7 Remake or Rebirth, they’ve generally received positive reviews, with critics often highlighting how well they run on the Switch 2.
During the recent Nintendo Direct presentation, Square Enix showed off more than just Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth. A new gameplay trailer was revealed for The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales. This action-RPG, announced earlier in July 2025, is being developed by Tomoya Asano, a long-time Square Enix employee known for his work on games like Bravely Default, Octopath Traveler, Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest, and Live a Live. Square Enix announced that The Adventures of Elliot will be released on June 18, 2026, making for a packed June release schedule.
