A Square Enix executive reassured Nintendo fans that the Switch 2 version of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is on track to be at least as good as the Switch version of the first remake. They even suggested it could offer better performance when played in handheld mode.
Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade is officially coming to the Switch on January 22, 2026. Square Enix also announced that the remaining games in the remake series will eventually be released for the Nintendo Switch, though they haven’t revealed any details about when.
FF7 Rebirth May Surpass FF7 Remake in Switch 2 Performance
Despite being one of the best-looking games of 2024, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth should still run well on the upcoming Switch 2, even though that console isn’t as powerful as the PlayStation and Xbox. Naoki Hamaguchi, a producer who has worked on Final Fantasy for many years, told VGC that Square Enix is putting in a lot of effort to optimize the game for the hybrid console. He stated that Switch 2 players will receive a version of the game that is just as enjoyable and high-quality as the first, and potentially even better.
FF7 Remake Intergrade Switch 2 Port Is Already Looking Promising
As a huge Final Fantasy fan, I’m really excited about the Switch 2 getting the first Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade! Square Enix just released a comparison video, and it looks like the cutscenes will be just as beautiful as on other consoles. They’ve also said they’re aiming for a smooth 30 frames per second, which is awesome. It’s still early days, but so far, it’s looking really promising!
Even if the Switch 2 version of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth performs similarly to the first game, it could still be an improvement – perhaps by maintaining a smoother, more consistent frame rate. While it’s unlikely Square Enix will aim for a frame rate higher than 30fps on the new console, it’s not impossible. We’ll likely get a good idea of what to expect from Rebirth by looking at how FF7 Remake Intergrade runs, as both games were made by the same team, use the same engine, and share many of the same assets.
Players who own a Nintendo Switch will receive a version of the game that’s just as good, or even better, than the original.
Square Enix hasn’t announced a release date for the second Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade game on the new Nintendo Switch 2. However, because the first game is being released as a Game-Key Card, it’s probable the sequel will also be available that way.
