Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth’s PC Requirements Are Incredibly Demanding

As a longtime fan of Final Fantasy 7, I’m beyond excited to finally get my hands on the PC version of Rebirth! However, it seems like my humble rig might not be quite ready for this epic adventure just yet. The storage requirements are daunting, and I fear my SSD will burst at the seams with this whopping 155GB game!

Last night during The Game Awards, we finally received word on the upcoming PC release of Final Fantasy 7 Remake.

The much-anticipated second installment in the reimagined series of Final Fantasy 7, initially launched on PlayStation 5, will be available on PC starting January 23rd. But don’t be surprised if we say your computer needs to be in tip-top shape, as its system requirements are quite demanding.

According to Square Enix, the game will need approximately 155 GB of space on a Solid State Drive (SSD) for installation. As a minimum, you’ll need a video card like the NVIDIA GeForce RRX 2060, AMD Radeon RX 6600, or Intel Arc 1580. However, they suggest that for an optimal experience, consider using an AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT or NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2070 graphics card instead.

As a gamer, I must admit, the game’s file size is quite substantial compared to what we usually see in the market today. Even though it’s standard for an SSD, it’s still a significant chunk of storage that not every gamer can afford to keep installed at their leisure.

At this moment, the game hasn’t received verification for use on Steam Deck yet, however, Square Enix is diligently working to make the game compatible with the Steam Deck.

As an enthusiast, I’m thrilled about Square promising their PC versions can reach a smooth 120 frames per second (FPS). You’ll also get a variety of visual upgrades, such as better lighting effects, more detailed environments, and textures that really pop. They mention NVIDIA DLSS, but it seems like we might have to wait a bit before it becomes available post-launch.

Players using PCs can link a DualSense controller and keep the identical control setup as the PC version of the game has on PS5. Moreover, mouse and keyboard support are now available, allowing users to tailor their control settings.
