Final Fantasy 7 Remake Mystery Drink: Effects & Consequences

Chapter 9 of Final Fantasy 7 Remake introduces a variety of side quests for players. It’s also famous for the Honeybee Inn scene, where Cloud famously dresses as a woman, and includes challenging battles in the Corneo Colosseum alongside Aerith, culminating in a difficult fight against the boss, Hell House.

In Chapter 9, when you reach the Colosseum area, you can talk to Johnny in a break room before your first fight. If you look at the item on the table beside him, you’ll discover a strange drink Cloud can choose to have. Johnny explains that Don Corneo gave him the drink as a gift, claiming it will give you a lot of energy. But should you actually drink it?

Should You Drink the Mystery Drink in FF7 Remake?

Simply put, drinking the mystery drink won’t change Cloud’s stats. However, it will subtly alter some of the side quests available to Cloud and his friends in Chapter 9, and it could even affect what outfit Cloud wears later in the game.

During Chapter 9, you’ll have a choice that leads to one of two outcomes: helping Madam M or Chocobo Sam. Choosing to drink the item will move you closer to the Chocobo Sam path, but refusing it won’t advance you on either path.

Throughout this chapter, your decisions will affect how the story unfolds. This includes things like whether Sam flips heads or tails, what kind of massage you choose at Madam M’s spa, and even small choices you make during conversations.

Choosing Sam’s storyline unlocks the side quests ‘Party Never Stops’ and ‘A Dynamite Body’. If you follow Madam M’s path instead, you’ll get ‘The Price of Thievery’ and ‘Shear’s Counterattack’.

The rewards for each quest are generally identical, meaning your main focus should be on collecting all the dresses for Tifa, Aerith, and Cloud – especially if you’re aiming for the “Dressed to the Nines” trophy or achievement. Your choices regarding the mystery drink don’t matter much otherwise.
