Summary
- The development of Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3 is progressing well, with the project not yet encountering any significant setbacks.
- While the game is still without a concrete release window, Square Enix’s track record suggests that the final entry in the FF7 remake trilogy could hit the market as early as 2027.
According to a top executive at Square Enix, they are pleased with the advancements being made in the third installment of the Final Fantasy 7 remake series, as mentioned during a recent update on the development of the game titled Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth.
Work on the concluding part of the Final Fantasy 7 remake trilogy started around June 2022, and it moved into full production shortly following the release of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth in February 2024. Since then, Square Enix has been sharing occasional updates about the progress of this highly anticipated AAA RPG.
Moving forward, the producer of Final Fantasy, Yoshinori Kitase, and game director Naoki Hamaguchi recently held an interview with Famitsu, discussing the progress of the current project. During this conversation, Hamaguchi expressed his contentment with the team’s progress, indicating that work on Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3 is progressing smoothly without any major hurdles. Despite this positive outlook, Hamaguchi has yet to provide a definitive timeline for the upcoming Final Fantasy remake’s release.
Square Enix Completed Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3’s Story in 2024
During the interview, Kitase emphasized again that the story for Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3 is already finalized. Hamaguchi had previously announced this in November 2024, stating that Square Enix had solidified their ideas for the upcoming RPG. Reflecting on the completed design, Kitase expressed his contentment with how everything unfolded and anticipates that fans will be just as satisfied with the end product, without revealing any specifics.
The development process for Final Fantasy 7 Remake spanned about five years, excluding preliminary stages. Conversely, it took Square Enix roughly four years to complete Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth. It is believed that the reuse of assets from the original remake significantly contributed to the shorter production time for the second installment in the trilogy. If not for the impact of the global pandemic and subsequent project delays in 2020, Rebirth might have been finished even earlier.
The third installment in the reimagined trilogy of this game series might arrive by as early as 2027. Similar to its predecessors, this unnamed title is projected to initially release exclusively on PlayStation consoles before expanding to other platforms like PC. Interestingly, the first sequel, “Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth,” became accessible across multiple platforms today, January 23rd.
