Square Enix is commemorating the launch of “Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles” with a unique Collector’s Set, yet the game itself isn’t part of this collection. Debates often arise about the value of collector’s editions, and many releases have sparked criticism from fans due to omissions like the absence of a physical game disc. Remarkably, the “Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles” Collector’s Set takes this a step further, as it doesn’t contain the game at all.
During PlayStation’s June 4 State of Play, it was announced that the game Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles will have two different versions. One is the Classic edition, which preserves the original graphics and gameplay with some updates, while the other is the Enhanced version, featuring upgraded visuals, fully-voiced dialogue, and various enhancements. Each version of the game comes included in any purchase, but if you buy the Collector’s Box, you’ll need to acquire separate copies to enjoy either edition individually.
During the State of Play event, The Collector’s Box wasn’t showcased, however, it was spotted later on the official Square Enix store following the game’s debut announcement. This special $200 pre-order offers exclusive items not found in standard editions such as a Ramza Beoulve figurine, various art cards, and three Chocobo plush toys. However, it’s important to note that the actual game is not included within this box. The product description clarifies that the box doesn’t contain The Ivalice Chronicles, meaning fans will need an additional $50 purchase if they wish to own both the collectibles and the game. This isn’t the first collector’s edition to raise eyebrows due to a perceived oversight, as fans criticized the Avowed Physical SteelBook edition in November for lacking a physical game copy. Yet, leaving out the game entirely seems somewhat puzzling.
Everything Included in the Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles Collector’s Box
- Special art box
- Ramza Beoulve figure
- Chocobo, Black Chocobo, and Red Chocobo mini plush set
- 12 Zodiac Stone acrylic magnets
- Pop-up art of the Outlying Church
- Three art sheets
It seems Square Enix offered a set that contained the Collector’s Edition box and a hardcopy of the game, but this combination is no longer available. This might be due to the fact that the Collector’s Edition has already been sold out, even though the game itself can still be purchased individually. Whether or not Square Enix will restock the bundle in the future remains unclear. However, enthusiasts of the Final Fantasy series can anticipate its appearance at the Summer Game Fest on June 6. For those who are only interested in the game, The Ivalice Chronicles is still up for pre-order in both digital and physical formats.
Besides revealing other exclusive items, State of Play also hinted at the reappearance of the special Astro Bot DualSense controller towards the end of 2025. Therefore, collectors are encouraged to stay updated for information regarding its official launch or pre-ordering opportunities.
