Supporters of the initial “Final Fantasy Tactics” game have played a part in bringing about the upcoming remake, titled “Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles.” The creators of the remastered edition have shared that fans significantly contributed to making the remake of “Final Fantasy Tactics” possible.
Fans of Final Fantasy Tactics have long anticipated the remastered version, titled Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles. Yet, some concern arose when it was disclosed that the original code for Final Fantasy Tactics had been misplaced. Given the development techniques back then, the code was repeatedly overwritten, leading to a significant part of The Ivalice Chronicles being recreated anew.
Fans Help Save Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles
At PAX West, the director of Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles remaster, Kazutoyo Maehiro, discussed the upcoming game during a panel. He emphasized that when the game is released in a different language, the original version gets overwritten, making it tough to recreate the game as originally intended. To tackle this challenge, the developers utilized all the resources at their disposal, including fan websites dedicated to the original game. Maehiro acknowledged that fans maintain these sites effectively, which was instrumental in preserving key aspects of the original game for the remastered version.

Before “The Ivalice Chronicles” hits the shelves, it appears that the team’s dedication to its creation suggests a promising future for the game. A well-known instance where a remastered game faced challenges due to lost source code was the “Silent Hill HD Collection,” which revamped the second and third games in the series. Regrettably, at launch, the game ran into numerous technical problems because it lacked the original source code, leading to various issues.

After everything’s been discussed, there’s still the question of whether other Squaresoft games experienced similar development treatments as titles like Vagrant Story, Parasite Eve, Chrono Cross, and Final Fantasy Tactics during their original release on the PlayStation between late 1990s and early 2000. Fans have long been advocating for remakes or updates of these classics. If it’s true that their code has been frequently rewritten like in the case of Final Fantasy Tactics, it could pose a significant challenge. However, Maehiro’s comments suggest there might be more remasters and sequels on the horizon if The Ivalice Chronicles performs well, so fans can keep a glimmer of optimism alive.
