As a long-time gamer and fan of XDefiant, I must say this final update is truly bittersweet. On one hand, it’s heartbreaking to see such a vibrant and promising game heading towards its sunset, but on the other, I can’t help but feel elated at the sheer amount of content that’s been crammed into this farewell patch.
XDefiant is gearing up for its grand finale as it prepares to shut down in a few months, which Ubisoft has confirmed will occur on June 3, 2025. Prior to this closure, the team has released one last update that is packed with an impressive amount of new content.
According to the patch notes and as confirmed by Mark Rubin on Twitter, the Season Three update for XDefiant brings extra content from the following five seasons, which were not originally planned for release.
What a Farewell
In the post on Twitter, Mark Rubin explained:
Ubisoft kept a compact team working to ensure Season 3 content is delivered promptly, and they even managed to incorporate bonus material from upcoming seasons into this release.
So, we have our Season 3 content plus some of the content from Season 4, 5, 6,7 and even Season 8.
For this update, we’re introducing three fresh factions – the Assassins (originally scheduled for Season 3), as well as the Wolves hailing from Season 4, and the Omega Force, joining us from Season 5.
In addition to the freshly introduced factions, there will be 13 newly designed battlefields, divided into six ‘Arena’ and three ‘Linear’ maps. These were initially scheduled for release later on. So, in total, you’ll find 13 new maps, but if you haven’t downloaded XDefiant yet, you won’t have access to them, making them a bit hard to come by.
In addition, there’s the introduction of a ‘Rayman map’, which was planned for a mid-season four event as part of a takeover.
Additionally, the third season introduces a gameplay mode with an emphasis on eSports: Defuse. This is based on the classic one-life bomb scenario, which forms the basis for games such as Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege and Counter-Strike 2.
Those still playing will also have access to ‘Lum Hunt’, ‘Tilt’, ‘Turbo XD’, and a vs-bots mode
As a gamer, I’m thrilled to share some exciting news! We’ve got fresh firepower joining our arsenal, including the G36K, M1A, and Diceros pistol. The good news is that all content added beyond the Battle Pass is now accessible for players who can still jump into the game.
It’s one hell of an update, but it’s a farewell patch at best for XDefiant.
