Finnegan Fox, a well-known animal advocate and the voice of a character in Overwatch 2, has died. The SaveAFox Rescue, a charity he supported for many years, announced his passing. People at SaveAFox and fans everywhere are saddened by the loss of Finnegan, who was known for much more than just his work on the video game.

Almost a year before it came out, Overwatch 2 introduced Kiriko, a new support character. She’s a ninja with fox ears who can both heal teammates with protective talismans and attack enemies with throwing stars. Players quickly loved her abilities and cool design, and many especially enjoyed her special ability, a ghostly fox spirit voiced by the late Finnegan.

It’s really sad, but SaveAFox just announced that Finnegan passed away a couple of months ago. I first found out about him when SaveAFox rescued him back in 2015, and he instantly clicked with his caretaker, Mikayla Raines. She later started the whole organization, which is awesome – they rescue foxes from fur farms. They’ve gotten super popular on YouTube and TikTok, raising a ton of awareness for animal conservation. While they feature a lot of different foxes, it was always the funny back-and-forth between Mikayla and Finnegan – he was such a mischievous, whiny little guy, and a bit spoiled, honestly – that really grabbed people. Those two platforms alone have over 5.6 million followers in under seven years, and a lot of that is thanks to Finnegan. Ethan Frankamp, who now runs SaveAFox, said Finnegan was a huge reason they’ve been able to save so many animals. They put out a really touching 41-minute tribute video on their YouTube channel, and it’s honestly heartbreaking.

Finnegan, the beloved internet-famous fox, recently passed away, following the death of his owner, Raines, who died in June 2025 at the age of 30. Raines’ husband, Frankamp, shared the news on social media, apologizing for the delay in announcing Finnegan’s passing. He explained he needed time to cope with losing both his wife and his cherished pet. Frankamp offered to refund sponsors who donated to Finnegan in the last two months, but asked that those funds instead be directed to a charity covering Finnegan’s final veterinary bills, which already totaled over $6,100 in less than a day.

People who knew Finnegan Fox through his work on Overwatch 2 and his online videos are sharing tributes to him online. Fans have been posting comparisons of the fox spirit character he voiced and photos/videos of Finnegan himself, highlighting his funny and heartwarming moments. These include clips of him cuddling and playing with his dog, Raines, sharing food with a baby fox, and making his signature playful sounds.
