Wow, the Winter 2026 anime season is really going out with a bang, and I’m especially hyped for Fire Force! While some shows are taking it easy towards the finish line, Fire Force is promising a total game-changer with this ‘Great Cataclysm’ arc. It looks like these last few episodes are going to connect Shinra’s world with the Soul Eater universe, and honestly, I have a feeling Haumea is going to be key to everything that happens. I can’t wait to see how it all unfolds!
We usually see heroes succeed, like with Fire Force’s wins against their duplicates and Arthur’s victory over the cultist Dragon. However, despite these battles won, the overall situation is getting worse, and the latest episode shows things have reached a critical point. Even with their triumphs, Haumea is destroying the world, and only Shinra and Sho are left to oppose her – and they’re barely holding on. It’s likely that the final episode will show them defeating Haumea, but failing to prevent the world’s destruction – a win that comes at a devastating cost.
Shinra and Sho Struggle to Land a Blow on Haumea
It Takes More Than Power to Win a Fight Like This
The latest episode of Fire Force showed even the most powerful characters unable to stop the escalating flames of the Great Apocalypse. Meanwhile, the Kusakabe brothers faced a tough battle in Adolla, and their long-awaited fight didn’t start as planned. After building up excitement for Shinra and Sho to finally defeat the remaining members of the White-Clad cult in Adolla, the episode took an unexpected turn, defying typical shonen anime tropes.
Shinra and Sho were completely unable to hurt Haumea, who insisted she was protected by a divine power. This established a clear sense of danger and anticipation in Episode 23, and suggests that Fire Force is going to break from the typical patterns of shonen anime finales. Most popular shonen series, like Naruto, Bleach, One Piece, and newer shows like My Hero Academia and Demon Slayer, usually end with massive, physical fights – think Deku versus Shigaraki or the Hashira against the Upper Moons. But Fire Force showed us that standard attacks like kicks and sword strikes won’t be effective against Haumea, or at least, not right now.
Based on the events of Episode 23 and common tropes in action anime like Fire Force, it looks like Shinra and Sho will need to unlock a new level of power to defeat Haumea in the series finale. Their current combined attack isn’t working, so a change is needed—likely a boost from within. These kinds of shows often give heroes who fight for a strong cause an extra surge of strength, like the power of believing in each other, and that could be what happens here. While Shinra and Sho are already fighting for a noble reason, they’ll probably need something more to win.
The solution to their problem might be right in front of the Kusakabe brothers: their connection as family. It’s heartwarming to see them finally working together after being rivals for so long, but they need to truly understand how important that reunion is. It’s sad their mother, Mari, isn’t here to witness it. The family is whole again, and the brothers don’t seem to fully realize the emotional weight of that. If they can connect with that feeling and channel their strong family bond into their fight, they might be able to turn things around. Shinra and Sho could discover the key to defeating Haumea, either through a new strategy or by appealing to her ideals. Ultimately, familial love is the only remaining option for the Kusakabes, and they need to embrace it.
The End of the World Just Might Stick
It May Be Too Late to Save the Tokyo Empire
Even if Shinra and Sho manage to defeat Haumea, it’s already too late to save most of the world. The recent events in Episode 23 clearly showed the devastating effects of the Cataclysm, with people disappearing in flames everywhere. Not even powerful firefighters like Benimaru and Company 8 could stop it. If Shinra and Sho win in the next episode, they’ll only be rescuing what little remains of the Tokyo Empire.
The connection between Fire Force and Soul Eater seems to be the central idea. Fire Force appears to be setting the stage for the world and characters of Soul Eater, with the Great Cataclysm acting as the catalyst. A key hint is the moon’s reaction when Benimaru shares a final drink with the people of Asakusa – it’s as if it’s celebrating the end of the Fire Force universe and welcoming a new one. Ultimately, the Kusakabe brothers will likely achieve a costly victory, preserving only a small fragment of their world where the story of Soul Eater can begin, and ensuring Haumea faces consequences for her actions.
