Following the thrilling debut last week, the third season of Fire Force is picking up speed. With episode one’s exhilarating ride, it’s not surprising that viewers are anxiously awaiting the next chapter in the tale. The scene is perfectly poised for a intense confrontation between two conflicting groups.

Will Company 8 manage to attain their objectives, or will The Evangelist, along with their freshly formed allies, extinguish the valiant efforts of the passionate Fire Force team members? With additional adversaries joining forces against them, the situation seems grim; however, Shinra and his comrades won’t give up without a fierce battle.

Key Plot Points From Episode 1

  • Raffles III has joined with the Evangelist and White-Clad to transform the planet into a second sun
  • Captain Leonard of Company 1 now answers to the Evangelist
  • The Empire is after Shinra for his Adola Burst
  • Captain Obi was arrested by the Imperial Army
  • Company 8 are now considered traitors

As a viewer returning to Fire Force after a four-year hiatus, I must admit that I was initially a bit foggy about what had transpired in the previous seasons. However, the opening episode of Season 3 did an impressive job of quickly catching me up on key events. It detailed the collaborative efforts of Company 8 with other allied forces, emphasizing the diverse group of allies Captain Obi and his team had amassed.

Things appeared to be progressing smoothly until suddenly, soldiers from the Tokyo Imperial Army arrived, accompanied by White-Clad prisoners in tow, intent on apprehending the captain.

The situation has left many supporters anxious about the well-being of the revered leader of the 8th, but subsequent events have added to their concerns. Upon being called for an audience with King Raffless III, Captain Leonard Burns, Karim Flam, Onyango, and Huo Yan Li were taken aback to discover White-Clad among the attendees. It was revealed that the Pillars, who are said to be devoted followers of Sol by none other than Raffles himself, have formed an alliance with the Empire in their quest to transform the planet into a second sun. Utilizing her power, “Talking Head”, Haumea successfully persuaded Leonard to join their cause. This sudden shift in loyalty was followed by Company 8 learning about their captain’s detainment and making a commitment to unite and work towards his rescue.

Coming to a Boiling Point

Without a Second to Spare

In the second episode of season three, the narrative commences with an unsettling premonition. Shinra perceives Captain Leonard Burns discussing a group of devoted Sol followers receiving retribution in the form of being rekindled. Later, he predicts that Akitaru Obi will undergo an operation involving one of the insects that induces humans to metamorphose into demonic entities.

Following this revelation, Kusakabe urges the remainder of Company 8 not to squander any more time. A quick recap of their humble origins shows the unwavering determination of Hinawa and the team. On the other hand, Obi appears to be in good health, utilizing his cell for workouts, despite the gravity of his situation.

The Long Fall From Grace

A street broadcast claims that Captain Obi is in custody, accused of kidnapping Shinra, a bearer of the Adola Burst. It also suggests that Company 8 are wanted criminals, having Kusakabe as their captive. However, despite widespread belief, followers of Company 8, including Benimaru from the 7th, express skepticism about this news, viewing it with suspicion. The team is currently in hiding, evading pursuit by imperial forces after the dissolution of their company.

As Licht unveils his mysterious associate, Joker, the gravity of their predicament becomes strikingly clear. This elusive figure proposes to guide the outcast team in adapting to a life of outlawry. With hesitation, they follow him towards an exposed sewer opening. The improbable duo then guides them to their covert underground lair, easily identifiable by a distinctive label. Once within, Licht and Joker disclose that Obi’s whereabouts have already been determined: Fuchu Penitentiary.

Unwavering Faith in Destruction

In an upcoming scene, Haumea and Leonard engage in a discussion that underscores Captain Haumea’s newfound trust in the Evangelist and their beliefs. His perspective on human combustion has noticeably shifted, viewing it as a challenge to be conquered by Sol’s followers. They both express the desire for Obi to partake in this joy. A figure in white, named Gold, encounters the imprisoned Obi with a bottle of insects and levitating coins, discussing the worth of money. She promises him that he will be released as an infernal. It’s clear that Akitaru is currently facing a serious threat.

A Sheep in Wolf’s Clothing?

As someone who’s spent many years in profound darkness, they instantly recognize, effortlessly, the genuine brightness when they catch a glimpse.

-Joker

In a turn of events, Shinra embarks on a journey alongside Joker, leaving the remainder of Company 8 with Licht who unveils his secret method of traveling via the Nether. Though the team finds it hard to place their trust in their new self-declared partner, Viktor urges them to have equal confidence in the “Dark Hero” as they do in him. Simultaneously, a conversation takes place between them and Shinra on their journey towards Obi’s rescue. Joker shares his motivation for assisting them stems from his belief in both Obi and Kusakabe themselves, explaining that his extended period of living in the dark makes it simpler to recognize genuine beacons of light. After reminding Shinra of the immense power of their adversaries, Joker guarantees him his protection.

Stakes That Continue to Rise

Fighting an Uphill Battle

In the vein of the engaging start we had, this new chapter sets up a grand battle between two powerful factions. Each side is convinced they are justice-seekers, suggesting that further shifts in loyalty might be rare as they stand their ground.

With Leonard Burns and his team now joining forces, the Evangelist, Pillars, Guardians, and Destroyers have become an unstoppable force that will be hard to overcome. As Obi’s life hangs in the balance, the urgency of the situation has escalated, leaving these heroes with little time for preparation before taking action. Can they reach their captain in time? Or will the next episode of Fire Force leave fans heartbroken? The days seem to drag by as we wait for this week to pass.
