As a long-time fan of the enchanting world of Berk and its dragons, I can hardly contain my excitement as Dreamworks announces the live-action remake of “How to Train Your Dragon.” Having grown up with Hiccup, Toothless, and their incredible friendship, I’ve eagerly followed every development in this magical franchise.

Dreamworks is planning to create a real-life adaptation of one of its beloved animated films, “How to Train Your Dragon”, much like Disney did with theirs. The initial teaser trailer and poster for this remake have been unveiled, and from what we’ve seen so far, it seems quite true to the original movie.

Back in 2010, I found myself captivated by “How to Train Your Dragon,” a masterpiece initially brought to life by Dreamworks from Cressida Cowell’s enchanting novel. This tale unfolds in the legendary Viking village of Berk, home to a society steeped in dragon-slaying traditions. The story revolves around the chief’s young son, Hiccup, who yearns to emulate his father as a mighty dragon-slayer. However, an encounter with a rare Night Fury transforms this aspiration into an unlikely friendship, subtly reshaping the tense relationship between humans and dragons. This heartwarming film was a triumph for Dreamworks, grossing close to half a billion dollars at the box office, and giving rise to a franchise that includes three movies and numerous TV spin-offs.

Teaser For Live-Action How to Train Your Dragon Released

2023 rolled around and I was all hyped up when Universal Pictures declared they were cooking up a real-world remake of my beloved “How to Train Your Dragon”! The original penman, Dean DeBlois, was back at the helm too, which made it even more exciting. Filming kicked off in January 2024 and wound down in May. Now, as a fan, I can’t wait to catch a sneak peek of this classic Dreamworks film brought to life in the flesh!

In the trailer posted on Universal Pictures’ YouTube channel, we see Mason Thames portraying Hiccup revealing to his father, played once again by Gerard Butler, that he can’t harm dragons. The majority of the trailer consists of scenes mirroring Hiccup and Toothless’ initial encounter from the original animated film. Unlike Disney’s live-action remake of The Lion King, the upcoming How to Train Your Dragon emphasizes a stylized representation of Toothless and other dragons, keeping them nearly indistinguishable from their animated versions. The trailer concludes with the film’s title accompanied by John Powell’s music, who also returns as a creative contributor from the original movie.

As a gaming enthusiast, I’m thrilled to share some exciting news about “How to Train Your Dragon”. Besides the teaser, Universal Pictures unveiled the first IMAX poster for the film. In this captivating artwork, my character Hiccup is seen gently patting Toothless atop a cliff – a scene that echoes one of the movie’s most memorable moments, as hinted in the teaser. Toothless is also depicted with his artificial tail in the poster, a detail that becomes more significant later in the film, as it allows him to fly once more. The poster carries the subtitle “The Legend is Real.” It’s an incredible sneak peek into the world of Berk and its dragons!

The cast for How to Train Your Dragon encompasses Nico Parker as Astrid, Nick Frost as Gobber, Julian Dennison as Fishlegs, Gabriel Howell as Snotlout, Bronwyn James as Ruffnut, and Harry Trevaldyn as Tuffnut, alongside Thames and Butler. The upcoming live-action adaptation seems to be a precise replication of the initial film so far, but what leaves fans intrigued is what modifications or new elements will emerge in the fresh How to Train Your Dragon movie. As DeBlois takes charge again for the live-action film, audiences can expect it to stay true to its roots, yet this remake offers a chance to introduce some variations from the animated version.

How to Train Your Dragon will be released in cinemas on June 13, 2025.
