First New FIFA Game Post-EA Breakup Announced, And It’s Not What Players Expected

As a seasoned gamer with decades of soccer gaming under my belt, I must say the announcement of FIFA Rivals has me buzzing like Maradona on the pitch! After years of waiting for a fresh take on the beautiful game, it seems our prayers have finally been answered.

For the first time since FIFA’s separation from EA, a fresh soccer game under the name FIFA Rivals, developed by Mythical Games, has been formally unveiled for mobile devices.

Set for release in summer 2025 on both iOS and Android platforms, FIFA Rivals is poised to deliver an exhilarating arcade-style gaming experience reminiscent of the beloved NFL Rivals mobile game. As announced by Mythical Games, FIFA Rivals empowers players to establish and run their own clubs, offering opportunities to upgrade and optimize team rosters while engaging in multiplayer matches with fellow enthusiasts.

The game won’t cost anything to play, but it offers in-game purchases that are supported by the Mythical blockchain technology called Mythos.

The organization teamed up with Konami for eFootball to serve as the official game for the FIFAe World Cup. Additionally, discussions have been held between FIFA and Take-Two Interactive and 2K about a licensing agreement. However, there’s no confirmed information regarding the status of these talks or if they’ve taken place, but TopMob reports that they were still ongoing during summer 2024. It is also rumored that FIFA aims to introduce a new console game around the time of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
