Five More Backyard Sports Classics Are Coming To Steam

As a seasoned gamer with memories of countless hours spent in the backyard battling it out in various sports, I must say, the news about the return of Backyard Sports to Steam has sent a wave of nostalgia through me! From the iconic ’97 Baseball to the unforgettable Hockey ’02, these games were an integral part of my gaming childhood. The fact that they’re coming back, single-player only with Steam achievements, makes me wonder if I’ll finally have a chance to beat my own high scores!

Announcement from Playground Productions: Five additional installments of the beloved Backyard Sports series will be available on Steam. This exciting news coincides with the release of the original Backyard Baseball ’97 on Steam as well.

Making an appearance at the storefront are the games Backyard Soccer ’98, Backyard Football ’99, Backyard Basketball ’01, Backyard Baseball ’01, and Backyard Hockey ’02.

The game release dates are yet to be disclosed, but we’re anticipating an announcement shortly. Each game will offer a solo player experience and incorporate Steam achievements.

Besides the five other games joining Steam, it has been officially verified that Backyard Baseball 97 will also be playable on Steam Deck.

In August, it was revealed by Playground Productions that they would be bringing back the Backyard Sports series. This restart involves re-launching and enhancing older games. There’s speculation in the air that fresh installments of the game might be coming soon.

Chris Waters, Playground Productions’ Chief Product Officer, expressed great enthusiasm when he announced, ‘It’s with immense excitement that we are bringing Backyard Sports back for a fresh group of gamers.’
