Fntastic Kickstarter Cancelled

Fntastic Kickstarter Cancelled

As a seasoned gamer with countless hours spent navigating the digital landscape, I’ve seen my fair share of triumphs and disappointments in the gaming industry. However, Fntastic seems to have taken this game development rollercoaster to new heights – or perhaps, lows would be more accurate.

Occasionally, the video game industry can appear as if it thrives on defying reason. At other moments, however, it’s breathtaking to behold, creating some of the most captivating artwork we see nowadays.

Without a doubt, creators of the 2024’s infamous Kickstarter failure, “The Day Before,” undeniably belong to the category of companies that experienced significant setbacks.

Following the unsuccessful debut of “The Day Before”, the company paused for a brief moment before initiating another Kickstarter campaign for “Escape Factory”, a cooperative escape game.

It wasn’t unexpected, considering the developer’s past performance, that the game managed to secure just $2388 out of its needed $15183, resulting in Fntastic either cancelling or delaying the project, depending on how you look at it from their press releases.

If it was clear that the Escape Factory had failed, what came next was surprising. Following two significant development disasters in an unusually short period, Fntastic opted to take a bold step forward, choosing to invest even more resources.

We’re thrilled to share that we’ve commenced work on an exciting new project – an action-horror prop hunt game named ITEMS! Let the fun begin!

Through a social media post, Fntastic announced that they have been inundated with numerous requests for a game centered around prop hunting, inspiring them to embark on a fresh venture. Unfortunately, their Escape Factory fundraiser has slowed down.

Even though there’s currently no active Kickstarter link, Fntastic has openly communicated their intention to start a fresh campaign for supporting the development of ITEMS. They plan to gather the rest of the funds needed through mobile gaming.

The Day Before

Towards the end of last year, Fntastic executed a highly controversial move in modern gaming, known as “The Day Before” incident.

The corporation’s version of the open-world multiplayer game, “The Last of Us,” received heavily critical responses upon its debut on Steam, following an unconventional promotional strategy aimed at reassuring gamers that it was not a fraudulent product.

Despite being heavily anticipated and one of the most pre-ordered games on Steam, The Day Before failed spectacularly upon its release. The failure was so severe that the developer, Fntastic, shut down soon afterwards, effectively pulling the game off the market.

Fantastic was absent for nearly a year, reappearing in late September with the ultimately unsuccessful Kickstarter campaign for “The Escape Factory.

The majority of the funds invested in The Day Before and Escape Factory were returned, as Steam extended its usual 2-hour refund policy for those who had purchased the game. Unfortunately, the Kickstarter campaign for Escape Factory didn’t manage to gather any funds since it fell short of its goal.

The game ‘The Day Before’ serves as a warning for pre-ordering games, particularly those from less experienced studios. Although ‘The Day Before’ wasn’t a fraudulent product, unfortunately, the players were left without a playable game in the end.
