Fntastic’s ‘Honest New Game’ Discovered To Be An Asset Flip by Dataminers

As a seasoned gamer with decades of experience under my belt, I can confidently say that the return of Fntastic to game development is like a bad joke that just keeps getting repeated. Last year’s antics with The Day Before left a bitter taste in our collective gaming mouths, and it seems they haven’t learned their lesson.

Within the past day, Fntastic unveiled their comeback to game creation, complete with a ‘2.0’ overhaul and a fresh title called Escape Factory. However, it is important to note that this same company, in the previous year, launched The Day Before – a game that turned out to be a deceitful move, as it was abruptly taken down just days after release. This left countless players bewildered and scrambling for refunds.

To support their comeback, the Fntastic team initiated a Kickstarter campaign for developing fresh games and revitalizing the studio. This move was met with enthusiasm by the community, much like drinking a cold glass of lemonade, albeit with some controversy. As the company seeks to separate itself from critics, data miners have uncovered surprising (but anticipated) secrets.

Round 2

On various social media platforms, investigators delved into Escape Factory, a free-to-play game developed by Fntastic ‘2.0’. Notably, a user known as ‘Occular Malice’ discovered that the networking, lobby, and matchmaking systems within the game seem to be based on ‘Unity demo code’, which is often employed by individuals learning how to create games.

In my gaming world, most of this game’s core is just purchased assets straight from the Unity marketplace, a lot of which are even free for gamers like me to utilize.

Beyond making matters worse, Fntastic has been deleting discussions on the Steam forum concerning this ‘misrepresentation’. Moreover, they’ve been proactively silencing individuals on social media who express dissatisfaction or criticism towards the game and the rebranding process.

18 hours ago, we shared news about Fntastic’s effort to regain popularity, and at that time, the Kickstarter campaign had only raised £154 out of a needed £11,646. Now, it stands at £370 with 23 supporters. To put it bluntly, anyone choosing to invest in this campaign should be aware they may bear some responsibility if, as expected, the project ultimately fails.

As a gamer, I’ve got to say, no amount of promises about honesty, transparency, or professionalism will convince me or my fellow gamers to trust Fntastic again. Frankly, their attempt at a comeback is just laughable.
