For Better and for Worse, Stranger of Paradise Fans Might Like Lost Soul Aside

After being released about a week ago, the opinions on Lost Soul Aside are starting to solidify. Admittedly, its release strategy was somewhat puzzling-for instance, I didn’t get an opportunity to review it beforehand. This has led to some uncalled-for negativity and doubt. However, with a bit more gameplay time under my belt, I can envision a scenario where Lost Soul Aside is appreciated for what it truly represents: a solid, stylish, but ultimately imperfect character-action game.

Although Lost Soul Aside might not be the best game out there, given today’s high standards, it can still be a decent success. It’s hoped that the game won’t be too negatively impacted by its relative mediocrity, especially since 2025 is a year with many highly anticipated releases.

This situation reminds one of Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin, another action-packed and debatable game from a few years ago. Although Lost Soul Aside and Stranger of Paradise are different, they do share some similarities.

Lost Soul Aside might not be the greatest game out there, but it could still make a splash, considering today’s lofty expectations. Let’s hope it holds its own amidst the year’s exciting releases in 2025.

And just like Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin from a few years ago, Lost Soul Aside is an action game that’s received some buzz and controversy. Despite their differences, they do have some common aspects.

Lost Soul Aside Could Be a Snug Fit for Stranger of Paradise Fans

Lost Soul Aside Has Stranger of Paradise’s Awkward Charm

Among the standout features of the game Lost Soul Aside, one that’s particularly noticeable is its endearing uncoolness. Characters seem stiff and unexciting, costumes appear awkward and outmoded, and moments of victory are often overly cheesy instead of inspiring. Despite this, the game doesn’t lack effort. On the contrary, it appears to strive for a sense of coolness, making it share a significant resemblance with Stranger of Paradise in its pursuit.

2022 saw the launch of “Stranger of Paradise“, a fresh take on the initial installment of the renowned “Final Fantasy” series. The protagonist, Jack, exhibits as much charm as a blank wall due to his stoic demeanor. What sets Jack apart is his relentless pursuit to annihilate Chaos, the game’s primary adversary, and this grim outlook permeates all of his character interactions. There seems to have been an attempt to mold Jack into a clichéd tough guy, but he falls short, appearing dull and uninspired instead – a typical action hero with scant depth. Interestingly, Jack’s lack of charisma, paradoxically, possesses a certain cheesy allure, but he shares more than just this trait with “Lost Soul Aside“.

Like Stranger of Paradise, Lost Soul Aside Is Saved by Great Combat Design

On a more straightforward note, both “Lost Soul Aside” and “Stranger of Paradise” offer impressive combat systems. In comparison, “Stranger of Paradise” exhibits a more calculated and soul-like style, while also drawing influences from the character-action genre. Conversely, “Lost Soul Aside” is a purebred representative of the character-action genre, with minimal souls-like elements. Despite their differences, they both share elements of flashiness, style, and complexity.

In simpler terms, the weapon system in Lost Soul Aside bears resemblance to the Job system in Stranger of Paradise. Each category offers distinct fighting styles and advancement routes for players to explore.

The games “Stranger of Paradise” and “Lost Soul Aside” share many characteristics, including polished action gameplay, intricate combat design, and a clear investment in their visual aspects, such as character costumes and enemy designs. They also place great emphasis on their soundtracks. While “Stranger of Paradise” has made an impact, it is expected that “Lost Soul Aside” may leave a more lasting impression.
