Forget The Last of Us, Bella Ramsey Has a New “Scarily Dark” TV Show on the Way

Although it’s been more than a month since The Last of Us season 2 concluded, the distressing episodes continue to haunt many fans, particularly poor Joel Miller. Even though HBO’s next chapter in the Naughty Dog adaptation will not revolve around Ellie and instead focus on Abby, fans yearning for more of Bella Ramsey’s intricate character can anticipate satisfying their cravings with an upcoming series teased as “atmospheric” and “darkly comical”.

In a shift from her leading role in HBO’s “The Last of Us,” where Ramsey portrayed Ellie, Abby is set to take center stage in upcoming episodes, similar to her game counterpart. However, due to Neil Druckmann’s departure from the show to focus on new video game projects like “Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet” and other studio ventures, season 3 will likely take a different direction. This news has stirred mixed feelings among fans about the series, particularly given the polarizing nature of season 2 and the fact that now, CarterMazen’s Khalil Huddleston (Craig Mazin) will be at the helm.

Forget The Last of Us, Bella Ramsey Has a New “Scarily Dark” TV Show on the Way

As reported by Deadline, I am thrilled to learn that Bella Ramsey will portray another intricate character in Daisy Haggard’s gripping Channel 4 TV series titled “Maya.” In this role, Ramsey will embody Maya, the teenage offspring of Haggard’s character Anna. After a harrowing past incident forces them to abandon London and seek refuge in a tranquil Scottish town under witness protection, the bond between mother and daughter deepens.

However, even amidst this seemingly peaceful setting, they soon realize that their safety remains elusive as two relentless hitmen persistently pursue them with the intention of eliminating them. I eagerly anticipate witnessing Ramsey’s performance in this suspenseful narrative.

Filming for the movie “Maya” will begin towards the end of this year in Scotland. More casting details will be revealed in the upcoming months. Ramsey shared with Deadline that the story and characters created by Daisy are vibrant, complex, darkly humorous, and chilling. He’s thrilled to portray Maya alongside Daisy’s character Anna, as each character is captivating, the dialogue is sharp, and he can’t wait to bring it all to life on screen.

In my mind, Bella’s role was vividly sketched out, and it still astonishes me that she’s on board. Bella is simply enchanting, immensely gifted, and I eagerly anticipate our collaboration. Moreover, I’m exhilarated to embark on the journey of directing, especially since I get to co-direct this series with the incredibly talented Jamie Donoughue.

It seems likely that since Ramsey has disappeared into the Scottish highlands this year, it could provide a clue about when production for The Last of Us season 3 might begin. Given that Ramsey may appear in flashback sequences, it’s clear that the next installment won’t be starting any time imminent. This is due to Neil Druckmann leaving the show, and no substantial work on season three has been carried out beyond a plot outline as of yet.
