As a gamer who grew up with the Xbox 360, I can’t help but feel a surge of nostalgia when hearing about the upcoming remake of the classic shoot ’em up game, Platypus Reclayed. The original game was one of my favorites back in the day, and though it didn’t quite make it as a lasting franchise like some others, I’m thrilled to see it getting a fresh coat of paint for modern platforms.

In a nod to the past, the classic shoot ’em up game, Platypus, originally released on Xbox 360, will be given a fresh update titled “Platypus Reborn.” Originally introduced on PC in the early 2000s and later ported to consoles like the Xbox 360, this revamped version is being developed by Claymatic Games. The anticipated release date for Platypus Reborn is slated for 2025.

Initially, the game known as “Platypus” debuted exclusively on PC in 2002, developed by Squashy Software and published by Idigicon. It was a side-scrolling shoot ’em up game. Later, it became an exclusive for the PlayStation Portable (PSP) in 2006 before making its way to Xbox 360 in 2009 via Xbox Live Indie Games. A sequel titled “Platypus 2” was launched in 2007. Despite shoot ’em up games maintaining popularity, the Platypus series did not appear to thrive through time as successfully as other franchises. However, for those longing for a blast from the past, the game is being revived on numerous contemporary platforms.

Claymatic Games recently unveiled the official trailer for “Platypus Reborn”, a remake of the original “Platypus” game set to release on PC, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch. The remastered version is being overseen by the original creator of “Platypus”, Anthony Flack. As a nod to its 22-year history, the legendary “Platypus” game returns with enhanced gameplay, new weaponry, and fresh content, according to an official statement about “Platypus Reborn”. Following the closure of the Xbox 360 store earlier this year, popular Xbox 360 games have made a resurgence, and now “Platypus” is among them.

Platypus Reclayed Announced for 2025

In the game titled “Platypus Recreated“, gamers venture into Collosatropolis, a metropolis once thriving but now overpowered by pollution. Citizens of this decaying city seek expansion in the neighboring city of Mungola as an escape. Players assume the role of F-27 “Platypus”, the last defense force of Collosatropolis in Mungola, in a fight for survival. The game boasts 4K widescreen graphics and can be played either individually or cooperatively. Both shared and split screen options are available. As per Claymatic, the remake was completely rewritten to accommodate modern hardware. Given that Xbox 360 consoles sometimes encounter performance issues, a revamped version might prove more advantageous for fans. “Platypus Recreated” is set to launch in 2025 and interested players can already add it to their Steam Wishlist.

Many people continue to view the Xbox 360 as the victor in the battle of seventh-generation console wars. Even though its marketplace has been closed, some enthusiasts continue to hold onto their Xbox 360 systems, be it for sentimental reasons or as a valuable keepsake. Just like Platypus, other Xbox 360 games have undergone remastering, including titles such as Lollipop Chainsaw and Shadows of the Damned.
