Former Assassin’s Creed Actor Reacts to Cancelled Civil War Game: ‘Once Again, F*** Off’

Ralph Ineson, known for his distinctive voice, publicly criticized Ubisoft’s decision to cancel an Assassin’s Creed game planned to take place after the American Civil War. Ubisoft recently announced the cancellation, explaining they had difficulty navigating the sensitive political issues within the game’s historical setting.

According to recent leaks, the game would have put players in the role of a formerly enslaved person who returns to the Deep South to fight against the Ku Klux Klan.

Canceled Because of the Political Climate of the United States

A promising Assassin’s Creed game, planned to take place after the American Civil War, was unfortunately canceled. Ubisoft decided it was too controversial and wouldn’t release it, as reported recently by our own Tom Henderson.

A video game was in development featuring a former slave who returns to the American South to challenge the Ku Klux Klan. While development was going smoothly and the team was optimistic, it was ultimately cancelled. Sources say this was largely due to the negative reaction to the game *Yasuke* and the tense political environment in the US at the time.

British actor Ralph Ineson, known for playing Charles Vane in the 2013 video game Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, recently shared a message on social media stating:

He’s referencing a previous post from September 27th that conveyed a similar idea. That earlier post was a response to the reveal of AI actress Tilly Norward by Xicoia and caused some controversy.

It’s unclear exactly what bothered Ineson about this news. He might have been upset that political pressure led to the game’s cancellation, or simply disappointed that he wouldn’t get to play it. However, it seems most likely he was frustrated that a game with important social themes was suppressed due to fears of causing controversy.

Though he recently portrayed Galactus in the new Fantastic Four film, Ineson generally keeps a low profile and doesn’t often share his opinions on social media.
