For over ten years, fans of the Battlefield series have eagerly awaited news about a possible Bad Company 3. A recent message from David Goldfarb, however, suggests that a new installment may not be happening. Despite this, the Bad Company series remains beloved by Battlefield players, and many still hope EA will revisit it in the future.
Many dedicated Battlefield players consider the Bad Company games to be among the series’ strongest entries. Bad Company 2, released in 2010, was a particular success, earning rave reviews from both critics and fans and improving upon the original. Because of this, players have long hoped for a sequel, especially given the game’s cliffhanger ending. Now, thanks to insights from a former developer, fans have a better understanding of how that ending was intended to play out.
David Goldfarb Reveals Original Story Plans For Battlefield: Bad Company 3
David Goldfarb, a former developer on the Battlefield series and lead designer/writer for Bad Company 2, recently addressed a fan question about the unresolved ending of the game. The ending shows the ‘Bad Company’ team being recruited to fight a Russian invasion of Alaska, followed by a map suggesting a large-scale conflict across North America. This strongly implied that a potential Bad Company 3 would have featured a story about US forces fighting to reclaim Alaska from Russian occupation in an alternate timeline.
After watching the footage, Goldfarb confessed he wasn’t certain why he’d included the final scene, although it had seemed logical to him at the time. He’d originally envisioned the next game taking place in an occupied Alaska, with players fighting to free it from Russian control. However, that idea never materialized; EA and DICE instead developed Battlefield 3, a successful addition to the series, but one that completely broke away from the Bad Company storyline.
David Goldfarb, a former game developer, has often shared interesting stories about the games he’s worked on, particularly the Battlefield series. Recently, he revealed details about Battlefield 3, including notes for two missions that never made it into the final game. These missions would have featured a jet pilot named Hawkins being shot down and captured, and later, a meeting between Hawkins and Dimitri “Dima” Mayakovsky, a key character in the game’s storyline.
Image via EA While a new Bad Company game isn’t impossible, it’s looking unlikely, especially given the direction the original creator had planned. After so much time and with EA seemingly hesitant to revisit the Bad Company series, fans will probably see games like Battlefield 6 instead. Battlefield 6 won’t be a direct sequel to any previous game, but it will include popular elements and gameplay features from titles like Battlefield 3 to give players a familiar and nostalgic experience.
