Former Battlefield Lead is ‘Not Sure Why’ They Set Up For Bad Company 3

Battlefield: Bad Company 2 came out in 2010 and was very well-received, building on the success of the original Bad Company game from 2008. Many fans still love it and have been hoping for a third installment, but it’s highly unlikely that Bad Company 3 will ever be made.

David Goldfarb, the lead designer and writer for Bad Company 2, recently shared on social media the reason why the game ends on a cliffhanger. The ending was meant to lead into Bad Company 3, a sequel that was ultimately never released.

Bad Company 3 Had a Concept, But Nothing More

David Goldfarb, a veteran game developer, frequently shares insights about the industry on social media. Recently, he discussed the canceled Battlefield: Bad Company 3, suggesting that if it were released now, it would likely attract many longtime Battlefield players. However, he doesn’t believe the game will ever see the light of day.

But once upon a time, a concept existed.

A clip of the ending to the video game Bad Company 2 recently appeared on X. The ending showed a potential storyline where Russia invades the US, and included a hint at a sequel. Unfortunately, that sequel was never made.

David Goldfarb picked up on this post and explained:

I remember it quite clearly. I’m not entirely sure what motivated my decision, but it felt right at the moment. I was also hoping to create a follow-up story where Russia had control of Alaska.

Imagine a different world where we might have already been enjoying Battlefield: Bad Company 3, freeing Alaska from the Russian forces that caused trouble in previous games.

Following 2011’s release of Battlefield 3 and Battlefield 4 in 2013, many fans consider those two games to be the high point of the series. Battlefield 6, released in 2025, attempted to recreate that success.

Electronic Arts stopped supporting online play for the Bad Company games a while ago. In 2024, they also discontinued servers for older versions of Battlefield 3, 4, and Hardline.
