A developer who previously worked on the game Doom has released their first independent game, High Fructose. It’s a fast-paced, randomly generated action game where you play as a ninja fox battling demonic fruit to create powerful upgrades.
The game comes from the mind of Christopher Cantero and his studio Chazak Games.
Cantero previously worked as an animator on popular games such as Smite and Doom: Eternal, and briefly on Doom: The Dark Ages. After being laid off from Unity in 2024, he used his severance pay to create his first independent game, which he largely developed on his own.
Features of the game include:
- Flow-state combat with wall-runs, air-dashes, double-jumps, and slow-mo
- Mutating demonic fruit enemies
- One manual weapon; everything else auto-fires
- Procedural battlefields every run
- Recipe powers: heals, shields, summons, explosions
- Between-wave upgrades and persistent seed progression
You can play the game on PC through Steam right now. We’re planning to bring it to Xbox eventually, but we don’t have a specific release date yet. Plus, you can find screenshots in the gallery below to get a closer look.
