Former Halo QA Tester Blames Microsoft’s Policies For Halo Infinite Issues

As a seasoned gamer with over two decades under my belt, I’ve seen my fair share of game development struggles – some more public than others. The recent claims made by former 343 Industries QA, Briggs William Crane, about the issues plaguing Halo Infinite resonate deeply with me.

A past Quality Assurance worker at 343 Industries asserts that Microsoft bears direct responsibility for the troubles that apparently afflicted Halo Infinite since its launch.

In response to a YouTube video discussing Halo Infinite’s campaign, DLC, and more, Briggs William Crane (former QA) shared his thoughts about the game’s challenges. He attributed the struggles to several factors, but emphasized that Microsoft’s “contracting policies” played a significant role in the issues faced by the game. (Credit for spotting the message goes to MP1st.)

Crane, now employed by Epic Games, expressed that Microsoft’s employment policies pose a significant challenge for Halo. He likened the situation to constantly striving for excellence, only to be let go after approximately 18 months, with no options for staying on. This, he added, results in employees leaving their roles just as they become proficient and skilled in them.

Afterward, he elaborated by stating that a substantial portion of 343 Industries’ staff consists of contracted employees, with the previous Master Chief Collection team being among them as well.

He stated, “It’s infuriating to observe the decline in quality of Microsoft-exclusive titles, and I believe this is largely due to the fact that they are unintentionally driving away the very talent they should be fostering. Instead, these skilled individuals are leaving their company and are then poached by other studios.

He added that it felt like it was done so Microsoft can “have the luxury of being able to easily lay off employees” at will.

Keep in mind that these are just the opinions of a past employee regarding Microsoft’s current situation, with a focus on the Halo series in particular. Please take this as a personal perspective rather than official company insights.

We’ve attempted to contact 343 Industries for their perspective on the matter, and we’ll make sure to revise this article if they choose to respond.
