The Harry Potter series on HBO is gradually building up the anticipation, as various casting choices are unveiled. So far, John Lithgow is the only confirmed actor playing Albus Dumbledore in the show, but there are many other actors reportedly set to enter this enchanting universe. Nick Frost is said to be a strong contender for Rubeus Hagrid, Janet McTeer is rumored to take on Minerva McGonagall, and Paapa Eddiedu appears to be HBO’s top pick for Severus Snape.

Given the scale of the Harry Potter series, it’s not surprising that HBO is aiming to attract top-tier talent to fuel excitement for their upcoming TV show. Yet, the eagerness extends both ways, with numerous actors eager to secure a spot in the cast, regardless of the role they might play. This includes individuals who have previously starred in other major franchises, such as past James Bond actors.

Pierce Brosnan, well-known for his role as 007, has a diverse career history beyond that iconic character. In an interview with The Daily Telegraph, the seasoned actor expressed interest in potential involvement in the upcoming Harry Potter series. He joked about his desire to play Dumbledore, saying, “As my hair has turned grey and life’s maturity settles on my face and shoulders, the Dumbledore role has become a family joke – I’ll enter my ‘Dumbledore years.’ Yet, I don’t wish to go there… at least not right now. But if offered the part, I suspect I would say yes.

Pierce Brosnan shares an intriguing family connection with the original Hogwarts headmaster in the Harry Potter films. Richard Harris, who portrayed this role in the first two movies, was the biological uncle of Brosnan’s two adopted children from his first marriage, Cassandra Harris. This unusual tie would have made it a particularly meaningful part for him to accept, but unfortunately, that specific character is already cast and unavailable for Brosnan.

The esteemed actor Michael C. Hall, known for his roles in “Dexter” and “The Crown,” has been chosen to portray the powerful and seasoned wizard in the upcoming series. His selection has stirred debate since he is American, a departure from the films’ tradition of primarily British casting. Nevertheless, Lithgow possesses the skill to deliver an authentic British accent, and his versatility should enrich the production from its onset, given the significant nature of this role.

While it’s true that Daniel Craig as Albus Dumbledore might not work out, it doesn’t exclude the possibility of other roles for Pierce Brosnan within the series. There are several older wizards scattered throughout the story who would perfectly suit him, and his involvement in the show could generate a lot of buzz given his star status. HBO has shown a willingness to take bold steps when it comes to casting Harry Potter, so incorporating Brosnan would align with this trend while elevating the quality of the series even further.
